JOB SUMMARY

The position has overall responsibility for leading a staff of 20 technology analyst, software developers, contractors, and a supervisor to deliver high quality products and services to the Marketing business area. The scope of work includes new technology solutions, application lifecycle management, strategic planning, managing vendor relationships as well as budgeting and financial management. The scope will also involve staying in sync with the CIS project and managing the application legacy remediation and retirements that are required for the transition. This role ensures operational efficiency with a focus on process, tools, and resources providing daily work direction, resource management and activity prioritization. This position is responsible for managing business partner relationships and developing technology strategy in alignment with business strategy and the needs in Marketing and their business partners across all electric operating companies. This manager will report to the Director of Power Delivery and Customer Technology Solutions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Education:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred. Advanced degree is a plus.

  • Cross-functional experience in the business or TO and a general knowledge of Marketing functions and of the Southern Company core business.

  • General understanding of Marketing business processes and knowledgeable with technology solutions that could impact external customers and regulatory policies.

  • Proven record of achieving measurable business results working with and through others.

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including building a strong, results-oriented team, performance management, and budget management.

  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to oversee major projects, including managing multiple tasks/priorities, communication, teamwork, consulting, financial and budget analysis.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Knowledge of software development technologies, tools, and computing infrastructure and how these can be used to deliver market competitive products and services within Southern Company.

  • Demonstrated talent in proactive communications and the ability to make presentations to all levels (employees, management, and executives).

  • Demonstrated understanding of financials, with the ability to make sound business recommendations based on the available information.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as the management level interface to business partners in Marketing organizations across all electric operating companies and has ownership and knowledge of technology activities impacting those business partners.

  • Oversees the development of and executes application lifecycle strategic plans for business partners, including new solutions development, assessment of options from vendors, etc., owning the results/solutions from end-to-end.

  • Owns researching, evaluating, designing, developing, estimating, recommending, implementing and/or supporting new technology solutions for business partners.

  • Develops and executes a communication plan for business partner application or business process impacts due to operational or project activity.

  • Responsible for strategic planning & support for all technologies within their customer groups.

  • Provides project oversight and integration with existing business processes and systems on behalf of the customer.

  • Manages the overall portfolio work plan, work prioritization, and delivery on team commitments.

  • Manages vendor relationships, establishes contracts, and identifies value adding partnerships to successfully meet the initiatives and goals of Marketing business partner organizations for electric business units.

  • Oversees the purchase and implementation of vendor technologies, including vendor interface and support.

  • Ensures disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place and tested within their areas of support, including storm readiness.

  • Manages configuration changes (i.e., code, databases, network, etc.) to ensure a stable computer platform exists.

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, audits, and change management controls.

  • Develops and manages the Marketing Technology budget for the portfolio.

  • Understands and manages the total Technology Organization Billing budget for the customer and provides variance explanations.

  • Establishes and maintains strong partnerships/working relationships with other areas of the Technology Organization as well as vendor management, external vendors, and suppliers.

  • Responsible for attracting, developing, retaining, & managing a diverse group of technical employees.

  • Responsible for hiring, performance management, and terminations, and for providing daily work direction, feedback, and coaching to their direct reports.

  • Responsible for workforce planning for their organization, and for appropriately identifying and developing successors for their and their direct reports' positions
