Compliance Specialist - Plant McIntosh

JOB SUMMARY
This position maintains in-depth knowledge of current environmental regulations and laws as they apply to the plant and uses that knowledge to ensure compliance with permits and regulations. The Compliance Specialist interfaces with corporate and regulatory agencies and ensures notification of the appropriate agency in cases of non-compliance. Recognizes environmental compliance issues that require attention and proactively addresses them. Champions the plant's compliance and environmental initiatives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related field or equivalent experience preferred
Experience in interpreting environmental laws and regulations, collecting and analyzing data. Compliance Specialist will typically work in one or more of the following areas.
Air Programs (Title V, MATS, TIER II, TRI, RICE/MACT, CEMS/PEMS) as they apply to a fossil generation plant
Water Programs (NPDES, Drinking, Surface Water Withdrawal, Groundwater, Stormwater, Dredging, SPCC, FRP)
Waste Programs (Hazardous, Non-Hazardous, Universal, Used Oil)
Land Programs (Coal Combustion Residual-CCR)
Industrial Hygiene
Other Programs (Process Safety and Risk Management Plans, NERC ERO/CIP)
Knowledge of power plant operations (environmental controls, SCR) is preferred
Must have good problem solving/analytical skills and be able to troubleshoot complex systems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Previous experience creating and delivering presentations
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge of Self-Assessment processes (Maximo, Enablon) preferred
Experience with other company specific software such as Maximo, Oracle, Primavera, Avetta, and Bridge is preferred
Previous project management experience preferred
Capable of working efficiently and effectively across multiple departments
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure compliance with permits by gathering data, performing necessary environmental sampling, monitoring equipment and interfacing with plant personnel and contractors
Document and maintain records to support environmental and regulatory compliance
Investigate non-compliance incidents, ensure notification of appropriate regulatory agencies, and direct the work activities of contractors and employees in emergency situations
Coordinate and manage environmental projects, including interfacing with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies
Understand budgets and assist the team in ensuring environmental consumables, testing, and permitting projects are funded
Interface with corporate environmental affairs and regulatory agencies
Prepare and submit all routine regulatory reporting for compliance programs
Train plant personnel on compliance related issues and conduct annual compliance training
Assist in writing plant environmental compliance procedures, action plans and guidelines
Ensure assigned plant specific compliance plans are reviewed and current
Coordinate environmental stewardship events
Perform self-assessments on plant environmental programs developing strategies and procedures to maintain compliance
Ensures compliance with all air, water, waste, and spill prevention programs including handling, packaging, and disposal
Ensures compliance with assigned programs including testing, reporting and permitting
Organize and maintain electronic and hard copy compliance files and records
Must be available for callouts, nights and weekend work and overnight travel
