Functional Management Duties
Applies the engineering standards and techniques for sustaining engineering excellence on the MIST II Contract.
Ensures the correct staffing and skill mix is available to support various projects at GSFC. Coordinates ramp up/down of efforts with KBR Project Leads and GSFC Technical Monitors.
Manages competing priorities for Mechanical Design group members, ensuring that GSFC project requirements are satisfied.
Recruits talented candidates in the areas of mechanical design, electro-mechanical design and opto-mechanical.
Completes annual performance evaluations for all group members.
Develops professional development plans with direct reports and other Mechanical Design group members. Development plans may include focus on technical, managerial and/or professional growth.
Arranges technical training activities, ensuring all group members have the appropriate training and certification based on their job requirements.
Conducts Quarterly Group Meetings with the Mechanical Design group members, disseminating pertinent information from regarding the MSES IIA Contract activities.
Reviews/Approves Travel Authorizations and Expense Reports.
Coordinates internal KBR peer reviews for employees/projects that require engineering oversight before presentation to the customer.
Program / Task Management Duties
Responsible for managing GSFC Task Orders. Efforts may include managing subcontractors and ensuring technical execution and completion of task deliverables. Financially responsible for generating and maintaining the task budget.
Assigns the Task Lead and task team members for multi-person tasks as needed. Coordinates the efforts of Task Leads and task teams within the Mechanical Design group.
Reviews and approves all monthly 533 financial and technical Progress Report documentation.
Provides inputs for the contract-level quarterly reviews and other performance evaluations as needed.
Reviews and approves purchase requisitions for subcontracted efforts in addition to hardware procurements.
Participates in weekly and monthly staff meetings with direct reports and other KBR Group Leads and Program Management.
GSFC Customer Interface Duties
Attends monthly Branch Head tags ups to review task and personnel status as needed.
Identifies key needs of each branch and works with the Branch Management to provide those services/skills.
Hold regular meetings with GSFC Technical Monitors to review task performance, financial and technical. Records and tracks action items and ensure closure.
Attends peer reviews and provides engineering consultation services, as required.
Required Skills
This position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in the aerospace industry with specific demonstrated technical expertise in relevant analytical areas such as mechanical structures. Candidate should have demonstrated the ability to lead the development of mechanical models of payloads and perform analyses of instruments and systems in addition to have experience in flight qualification programs.
Candidate must have experience leading highly technical teams and in project leadership, personnel management, task management, and budget management, including exposure and understanding of task order services contracts and NASA form 533 financial reporting. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and excellent communication (written and oral) skills.
Technical team leadership experience and spacecraft project review experience is required.
Education
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
