As a highly skilled Test Technician Mechanic you will test finished machines in accordance with engineering test specifications, make final adjustments, repair or replace defective components, support assembly functions as required and coordinate rework/special projects.

The successful candidate must b ring (basic qualifications):
3 years' minimum experience in mechanic or heavy equipment/machine assembly field or certified trade school/technical degree in a mechanical or manufacturing field with large equipment. Must be documented.
Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawing and schematics
Must document a working knowledge of and ability to trouble shoot advanced mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
Top Candidates Will Have:
Heavy assembly experience
Hydraulic systems experience
Heavy crane equipment experience
Ability to read standard work, prints, and write continuous improvement cards
Ability to utilize computer for production transactions
Experience using mechanical tools including torque tools
Ability to work with metric units, hydraulics and electrical components
Must communicate and work effectively in a team environment.
Experience diagnosing, testing, and calibrating heavy equipment.
Duties and Expectations:
As a Test Mechanic for Caterpillar, Inc. you can expect to test finished machines in accordance with Engineering/Quality Control test specifications. Diagnose and repair defective units. You will repair, replace and coordinate calibrations of test equipment. You will find yourself assisting manufacturing engineers developing and proving test procedures and equipment, as well as assist product engineers to set RTD specs and limits. Engage with suppliers to trouble shoot and adjust components to meet specifications. You will respond to line down situations, troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic issues. This may include assembly/rework of production units. VMC programming. Electronically and manually maintain documentation for labor hour records, process work order and production documentation.
On the organizational side you can expect to coordinate and prioritize work to meet production schedules. Take initiative to identify, document, communicate and correct problems, report discrepancies and recommend solutions. You will support team People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) initiatives and daily activities while interacting effectively in a team environment in alignment with our Code of Conduct and Values in Action

Work Environment & Physical Expectations
Testing heavy equipment regularly outside in all weather conditions. 90% of workday is spent around machines operating at high idle and under high pressure with noise levels of 80db or greater on occasion. You can expect to operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists Lift up to 35 lbs frequently Work at multiple heights climb on equipment, machines, ladders and various step stools Stand for a minimum of 8 hour shifts with minimal breaks work in environment with frequently changing temperatures exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices kneel, squat, and crawl on knees Work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting, and forward head and rotation of neck. Work in tight spaces repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling, rotating Use of fine motor skills Use of hand tools including wrenches, air tools, drills, cutters, tie wrap guns, pneumatic, vibratory, etc. Includes ability to pull manual torque tools to torque requirements (at least 250 Newton meters or 185 foot pounds).
Required Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed/metatarsal foot gear, and as needed dust masks.
