We have an exciting position open within Caterpillar seeking an Accounting Analyst ( internally known as Staff Accountant I).

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

From the outset, this position will be expected to be a contributing performer, performing financial/decision support accounting work that supports business processes. Additionally, this position will:

  • develop an expanded understanding of Caterpillar's business and accounting practices, systems andprocedures

  • apply accounting knowledge

  • participate in and lead teams

The incumbent will be exposed to a variety of accounting functions and will perform a high level of compilation with a broad range of analysis work. The Accounting Analyst will review clerical input, advise salaried employees and entry-level accountants, generate reports and provide related commentary. The Accounting Analyst will review and validate relevant data and data sources, analyze information, and provide feedback. Incumbent works on challenging, low to medium-risk issues and makes decisions and recommendations as appropriate. Work will be directed by an accounting supervisor primarily through a review of progress and results.

Possible areas of responsibility are varied and of medium complexity, including:

  • financial accounting, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory accounting, consolidations

  • internal management accounting, including profit center reporting and budgeting and margin analysis

  • coordination of purchased services and transfer prices

  • development and maintenance of internal controls and procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley controldocumentation

Possible areas of responsibility are varied and of medium complexity, including:

  • financial accounting including preparation of journal entries, financial statements, trend marginal variance analysis, and account reconciliations

  • development and maintenance of internal processes

  • Financial Systems and reporting tool transformation

The Accounting Analyst will demonstrate knowledge and ability to independently handle accounting issues. The incumbent will demonstrate good communication skills and have an expanded knowledge of Caterpillar's businesses, products, suppliers and customers.

Basic Requirements:

  • 4-year degree, preferably in accounting, finance or business-related degree

  • 1+ years of accounting experience

Top Candidate Will Also Have:

  • Must demonstrate strong leadership, initiative, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively

  • Knowledge of local statutory accounting, currency, and tax and trade controls are desired

Additional Details:

  • Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify

  • This position would ideally be located in the Peoria, IL area; however open to considering other Caterpillar facilities within the U.S. (candidates permanent address must be within 50-mile driving distance to a Caterpillar facility)
