Senior Accountant - Transaction Tax

Education and Experience:
. Bachelor's degree required.
. 5 years of accounting/tax experience in the field of sales and use required
. Vertex O Series, Oracle Cloud experience a plus
. Experience in accounts roll-forward and reconciliation preferred.
. Experience managing government audits preferred.
Business Execution:
. Timely and accurately prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual federal, state, local and international transaction tax returns, and monthly reconciliations
. Participates in peer review of tax returns to ensure a first level review to capture training opportunities for junior staff
. Gathers and supports requested data for federal, state, local and international transaction tax audits by tax authorities
. Lead the sales tax staff in research for defending company's positions and dealing with auditors to reduce proposed liabilities
Organizational Savvy
. Builds and maintains relationships with Affiliates, Accounts Payable, Supply Chain and Accounts Receivable to provide tax guidance and expertise to maximize tax savings and minimize tax exposure
. Research transaction tax issues and questions from Affiliates to ensure correct taxation on company purchases, projects, and initiatives
. Follows departmental and organization policies and procedures
Business Acumen:
. Performs analysis of Vertex sales and use tax system data to ensure accuracy
. Analyzes general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable data to ensure proper recording of transaction tax data
. Updates transaction tax rate tables for the compliance and billing systems
Communication:
. Issues exemption certificates for vendors and receives and tracks exemption certificates from customers
. Research and provide guidance on requirements for issuing certificates and the applicability of received certificates
. Respond effectively to verbal or written inquiries
. Read and interpret business publications and documents
. Write complex reports and correspondence with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, cohesive structure, concise wording, and appropriate tone
Problem Solving:
. Assists Supervisor in identifying and implementing process changes as necessary to streamline the processes and mitigate compliance risks
. Maximizes utilization and functionality of transaction tax technology decision and returns system
. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
. Regularly recommends alternative solutions to business issues
Teamwork
. Works closely with the business units to respond to transaction tax questions
. Assists Supervisor and team members with research for federal, state, and local and international transaction taxes
