The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated Business Risk and Controls Advisor Mid-Level Associate to join our Strategy, Digital and Brand Quality Control testing team.
As a member of the first line of defense, you will perform testing under the Enterprise Testing program methodology to ensure departmental processes and activities comply with applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. The Business Risk Control Advisor will compile and retain well documented work papers to create accurate and concise written results including issues, root cause and recommended corrective action. In this role you will also build, develop and maintain relationships with business and internal control partners (Audit, Risk & Compliance, Legal) to facilitate collaboration between all lines of defense for testing.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Advises the business on how to strengthen and manage their control environment pertaining to oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, Third Party Governance, or quality governance.
Performs ongoing supervision and oversight of business controls which may include the coordination of testing, root cause analysis, control design, and examining key risk metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of established business controls.
Performs risk data analysis, report preparation and trend analysis from testing results and provide information to the team and relevant stakeholders.
Partners with business owners to assist them in the identification of control failures and assesses the impact with the ability to make recommendations to remediate issues.
Assists with translating control deficiencies into action plans and facilitates effective and timely risk remediation through action plan oversight; provides recommendations to enhance governance practices in alignment with risk and compliance frameworks.
Maintains processes, procedures, and tools for managing exception alerts as they occur, including monitoring of resulting exception cases.
Provides control oversight to ensure compliance with laws and regulations and the completeness and accuracy of testing results/reports.
Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor's Degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
4 years of experience supporting risk and/or compliance-related activities in a financial services operating environment or other relevant industry; OR 4 years of experience in a relevant quantitative discipline; OR Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative discipline, and 2 years of experience supporting risk and/or compliance related activities; OR PhD in a risk management or quantitative discipline.
Knowledge of federal laws, rules, and regulations, to include: UDAP/UDAAP, FRB Regs A-Z, NAIC, and GLBA.
What sets you apart:
Compliance Risk Management, Audit, or Testing experience.
Experience within a large financial institution driving controls testing within Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit, or a Regulatory Agency.
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of regulatory compliance and/or operational risk to consult and provide insight and guidance.
Understanding and application of Issues Management function.
Proven experience mapping risk and controls to business processes.
In depth knowledge of risk management practices and methodologies including Risk Identification and Risk Assessment.
US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $78,670 - $150,330 .
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
