Job Description
For Caterpillar, digital means using technology to extract data from our machines and engines and transform it into valuable recommendations or -insights,- to help customers make better, more informed decisions and help Caterpillar make robust products with the lowest total ownership cost. Our products generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, onboard models, and control algorithms in real-time creating real-world machine usage information.
The Technology Team Lead position leads the development, testing, and troubleshooting of technology software systems used for staffed, semi-autonomous, and autonomous machines. This generally includes onboard system validation work that integrates with current machine systems and includes the areas of Perception and Positioning technologies, machine health, machine reporting, and other operator assist features, as well as infrastructure areas supporting the development of these sub-systems (calibration, simulation, analytics, machine learning development pipelines). The position uses a combination of deep technical knowledge and very strong machine development/validation skills to develop high-quality validation plans and ensure the execution of those plans. This position will work closely with the Software Developers and Strategist roles to translate complex program or system requirements into actionable development efforts and support the evaluation and development of internal and external technologies validation.
Job Duties:
This position is responsible for leading a small team of engineers and technicians to deliver on program commitments. Strong quality focus through thorough test planning and execution; documentation and communication of issues.
Troubleshoot complex issues from test or customer sites, and examine the information from test sites to improve overall systems performance.
Provide technical leadership and training to new staff members. Good communication is expected for technical status updates, test plan reviews, and when working closely with other validation engineers, support teams, and product support.
Keeping up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs is essential and require continuous learning through self/internet study, as well as interaction with other autonomous engineers through conferences and papers.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum.
10 years of experience with the development, test, or validation of machines, engines, or control systems.
Top Candidate will also have:
Advanced degree (i.e. Masters, PhD) in an Engineering or Computer Science related field.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments.
Strong technical leadership skills.
Strong problem-solving skills, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
CAT MineStar experience including Health, Fleet, Detect, Terrain, TOPE, or CMD
Experience with on machine validation of complex control systems

The location for this position is Green Valley, AZ (Tucson Proving Grounds).
