The Building Construction Products team at Caterpillar designs, manufactures, markets and supports Caterpillar's line of small, versatile construction machines and attachments for the commercial construction, residential construction, specialty trades, landscaping and agriculture industries. Specifically, in Clayton, NC, we manufacturer Small Wheel Loaders (https://www.cat.com/en_US/products/new/equipment/wheel-loaders/small-wheel-loaders.html) (SWL) used for a variety of purposes across the industries we serve. If you are a supply chain or manufacturing operations professional and are looking to continue your career in an impactful role, we have an excellent opportunity for you to join the team as a Material Planning Manager.
Reporting to the facility Supply Chain Manager, you will own the execution of all Material Planning and Inventory Management (physical inventory) responsibilities for the facility. Your success will depend on your understanding of a broad mix of production parts, our worldwide supplier network, our diversified inbound transportation providers, and, corporate physical inventory and internal control requirements.
From an execution perspective, you will:
Purchased Part Availability - You will supervise the material planning function for the facility, ensuring material availability to the facility. This requires constant collaboration with our supply base and our Caterpillar team members in Purchasing. Your team will also ensure availability of material to the point of use which requires teamwork with our Logistics Department. Developing expert knowledge of the supply base, the nature of the parts supplied, and inbound transportation plans are key. Mastery of Caterpillar MRP, Purchasing, Inventory Management, and Cat developed software tools are a must.
Inventory Management - You will plan, initiate, and maintain a material procurement process that establishes and achieves the least total cost, best quality and timely delivery for facility material purchases from internal and external suppliers. You will lead a team that manages inventory and record accuracy and optimizes inventory values through monitoring of shortages, minimizing surplus material, and, assisting in managing supplier delivery performance. Efforts must balance ensuring 100% material availability while maximizing inventory turns.
Inventory Record Accuracy - You will manage a team responsible for the counting of parts, the analysis of inventory discrepancies, documentation of findings, and the input of various inventory transactions. You will be responsible for all metrics associated with Caterpillar's physical inventory programs. Additionally, your team performs many tasks in adherence with Caterpillar Internal Control and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

Key Skills and Abilities for this role include:
Analytical Skills: You will need to understand numerous complexities in product, assembly constraints, complexity of purchased parts, method of inbound transportation, and several other inputs. Your high analytical skills serve you well in considering these inputs, with often conflicting demands, to deliver the best recommendations.
Teamwork: On a daily basis you will work very closely with the facility's Logistics, Operations, and Quality teams. You will participate in numerous cross departmental projects and work directly with the BCP and Corporate Purchasing and Transportation Teams.
Leadership: You will focus on respecting and engaging team members, putting facility goals ahead of personal objectives, and effective communication skills.
Lean Thinking: You will drive the incorporation of error proofing and lean manufacturing concepts into the Material Planning and Inventory Record Accuracy team's processes.
Customer Focus: You will have laser focus on the customer both internal and external (suppliers and transportation providers) customers.
Managing Change and Agility: You will be ready to adapt quickly to changes and help the team embrace the changes.
To be successful in this role, you must possess (Required Qualifications):
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
At least 7 years' experience in Supply Chain, Logistics or Purchasing
At least 10 years' experience working for a Manufacturing company
At least 5 years supervisory experience at a Manufacturing company
Top candidates will also possess (Desired Qualifications):
Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles
Experience working in SAP

We are in Clayton, North Carolina, which is a 30-minute commute from the state's capital, Raleigh.
We are a single shift operation, working four 10-hour shifts (Mon-Thurs), that assembles Small Wheel Loaders for distribution worldwide.
We are the primary assembly facility of a $650 million business, and, we are one of 3 US assembly facilities of the Building Construction Products division, a $6 billion business.
