The Sexton business fits within the ITW Drawform Division and is a market leader in the manufacture of high-pressure aerosol cans and after-market filter shells and is seeking a Tooling Coordinator that will be located at the Decatur, AL facility.

This is a new role within ITW Sexton that will be responsible for parts related to an innovative and specialized product. The Toolmaker will produce quality parts through efficient development of transfer press tooling coupled with proper maintenance of tooling, presses and peripheral equipment for an assigned press, cell, or group of presses. The incumbent will offer logical and user-friendly solutions to everyday problems.

  • Complete tool development, maintenance, and management for assigned presses and cells, including robots, washers, conveyors and dies.

  • Format presses to produce parts within required tolerances and optimal efficiency and recognize and correct both typical and unusual die, press and cell problems.

  • Contribute die design concepts for the dual purpose of developing new tooling and upgrading existing tooling.

  • Prepare and assist Maintenance and Press Operators with changeovers while supporting the improvement of changeover efficiency.

  • Oversee the layout and inspection of tooling before placing it into a press including necessary tool sharpening and polishing.

  • Organize and update tool books as needed.

  • Operate toolroom equipment efficiently to produce all necessary tooling and ensure standard, quality parts come off each assigned press/cell.

  • Train transfer press operators and die setters to comply with all quality standards.

  • Understand and incorporate use of S.P.C.

  • Pull tooling when required.

  • Know the type and proper mixture of drawing and machine lubricants for each assigned job and remove or replace drawing lubricants on presses as required.

  • Troubleshoot minor hydraulic and electrical press/cell problems to achieve maximum productivity.

  • Work cross functionally across different shifts to keep dies and tools ready to meet production and quality needs including working on seamer tooling and ordering it as needed.

  • Troubleshoot dimensional issues and adjust for optimal run conditions in press to support production schedule.

  • Demonstrate good short- and long-term decision making and judgement in pressroom trouble shooting, toolroom machining practices, safety, diagnosis of problems and course of action, and toolroom repair and maintenance work.

  • Perform other duties as required.

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Machine Tooling degree or related certificate desired and/or minimum 3 years' working experience as a Toolmaker in a shop floor setting.

  • Journeyman status a plus.

  • Able to lift approximately 20 - 40 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems within a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (equipment suppliers, outside engineers) to support project development activities.

  • Ability to work independently, manage projects and complete assignments in a timely manner.

  • Self-starter; works with minimal supervision; capable of offering up and making decisions.

  • Effective oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Team-player with aptitude to learn the ITW culture and work within a fast-pace environment with frequently shifting priorities.

  • 4 days of 12 hour 7 PM to 7 AM
