The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a senior technical accountant to join their accounting team. This position will be primarily responsible for providing technical analysis over complex transactions such as capitalized software, revenue contracts, and financial reporting for the Americas region. This role works directly with senior accounting leadership, Legal, Sales and Engineering to evaluate software development projects, executed contracts and prepare conclusions in memorandums.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of US GAAP, primarily: ASC 340, ASC 350-40, ASC 606, ASC 805, ASC 810, and ASC 985-20

  • Document considerations for technological feasibility, general availability, and impairment for both internal use software and software for sale

  • Analyze software development costs for capitalization

  • Partner with the accounting and reporting team to provide guidance on complex transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, impairments, restructuring, litigation, etc.

  • Evaluate final executed agreements and document accounting conclusions in technical memorandum under ASC 606

  • Continuously improve the accounting processes and procedures by identifying areas to streamline, automate or refine

  • Provide training on technical topics to finance teams within the segment

  • Provide assistance with monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external reporting requirements

  • Interface with both internal and external auditors in support of audit procedures

  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • CPA required

  • Ability to influence decisions based on expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel functionalities

  • Public accounting experience preferred

  • BA/BS in Accounting and/or Finance is required

  • Problem-solving, analytical skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Position requires high attention to detail and a desire for continuous improvement.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a professional attitude and demeanor working with the internal team.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple projects, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
