The Opportunity

As a dedicated Business Risk and Controls Advisor Lead, you will be accountable for driving business issues through the issue remediation cycle.

You will promote risk-awareness and the overall effectiveness of risk and compliance management programs, risk analytics and operations in the business. This role will partner and collaborate with Compliance and Risk Management, as well as Business Operations, IT, Audit Services, and Regulators to support risk and compliance-based initiatives. You will also be responsible for supporting business leader adherence to the established risk framework and ongoing supervision of business controls; including, risk and control self-assessments, identification, and evaluation of control effectiveness, identifying control failures, facilitating risk and compliance remediation, internal and external audits and regulatory exams, and monitoring of the first line of defense to minimize risk exposures and strengthen the overall control environment.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Direct and lead all aspects of multiple initiatives in support of risk and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives including but not limited to: oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, Company or Staff Agency Third Party Governance, or quality governance.

  • Apply a comprehensive understanding of risk and regulatory compliance to include business strategies and solutions.

  • Responsible for first line of defense data analysis, report preparation and trend analysis, using business intelligence tools.

  • Design solutions for unanswered business questions and anticipates future business needs.

  • Direct, organize and coordinate action plans designed to enhance governance practices in alignment with frameworks.

  • Influence and develop innovative solutions to mitigate risk and prevent risk exposures which result in significant business impacts.

  • Handle the most complex projects involving cross-functional areas.

  • Define and outline innovative approaches to problem resolution and lead project team from concept through implementation.

  • Counsel senior management on the status of their control environment related to risk identification and control weaknesses.

  • Identify critical areas to monitor and bring up issues and findings to appropriate partners.

  • Serve as a primary resource to cross functional team members and advises on risk mitigation opportunities.

  • Stay informed of changes to the regulatory environment to ensure proper compliance with processes and requirements are followed.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, and controlled in accordance with policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 8 years' experience supporting risk-related, compliance related, or business control design activities in issue remediation OR 8 years' experience in a relevant quantitative field; OR Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative field, and 6 years' experience supporting risk-related, and/or compliance-related, or business control design activities in issue remediation; OR PhD in a risk management or quantitative field, and 4 years' experience supporting risk-related, and/or compliance-related, or business control design activities in issue remediation

  • Knowledge of federal laws, rules, regulations, and applicable guidance to area supported for example: OCC Heightened Standards, BSA/AML, REG E, UDAAP/UDAP, TILA/REG Z, SCRA, FCRA, MLA.

  • Ability to drive multiple remediation issues simultaneously at various stages of the remediation process.

  • Ability to drive action, write details of an issue so and independent third party can understand clearly, raise when timelines are in jeopardy and push key resources to keep the issue on track for committed dates.

  • Knowledge of the products, systems, data, and processes for the specific lines of business.

  • Experience with bank member/customer remediations.

  • Experience with any of the following: credit card, debit card, consumer lending.

  • Strong background successfully interacting with and influencing partners.

  • Experience writing action plans.

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $120,500.00 - $230,400.00 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
