The Role: Smith-Blair, Xylem brand, seeks to hire a Director of Engineering responsible for the development and performance of all Product Engineering and Quality Assurance activities. This person will staff and direct the engineering and quality departments and provide leadership towards the achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with company vision and values.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
Manages and trains the product engineering, applications engineering and quality assurance team.
Coordinates activities of engineering department to design, process, project, and develop, produce, improve, and test components, products, systems, and services.
Works on or serves as a resource on projects requiring advanced engineering or industry knowledge.
Provides planning, direction, and coordination for all technical activities.
Plans and establishes department schedules and follows up performance against estimates.
Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
Manages development of material selection standards.
Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
Recommends and implements new policies and procedures as directed.
Prepares and controls department budget, forecasts operating costs of department, and directs preparation of budget requests.
Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures, and objectives regarding processes, initiatives, and projects.
Work with legal department to manage intellectual property and minimize product liability threats.
Responsible for providing product application assistance to customers.
Ensures products comply with industry standards.
Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team.
Be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills in planning and organizing to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
Ability to coach / mentor / inspire team of direct and indirect reports.
Carry out special assignments and other duties as needed.
Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience required.
PE certification not required but would be a plus
Minimum 7+ years of successful management in engineering field.
Strong analytical skillset, strong MS Excel and database skills
Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Experience Order Management or ERP systems in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Proven leadership skills to coach and lead teams to fully deliver chartered objectives and projects.
Must have excellent project management skills.
Advanced problem-solving capabilities, attention to detail and numerical aptitude.
Manager/Supervisor of direct reports experience preferred.
