Overview

The Business Projects & Optimization team is a Branch Operations back-office support team that works closely with all areas of Branch Operations and all other business units to generate and implement process improvements that enhance Branch team members' and members' daily lives.

The Summer Associate assigned to this team will take on a project aimed at improving a specific branch operations process and/or procedures. The person in this role will analyze, determine, coordinate, and implement continuous process improvements (CPI) to achieve end-to-end business optimization of moderately complex business processes and systems. Additionally, they will research internal processes and capabilities to improve Return on Investment (ROI), enhance the effectiveness of the business and/or services, and react effectively to business needs with moderate latitude for discretion. The Summer Associate will provide guidance and advice to management on the most efficient use of resources to obtain positive and measurable results.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2024 and ending in August 2024. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify, applicants must be pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Kaizen and Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques to examine end-to-end business processes and develop recommendations to improve efficiency and operations.

  • Provide follow-up to monitor the progress of planned improvement implementation to ensure timely action, support, and achieve expected benefits.

  • Collaborate with functional areas to develop and maintain performance metrics, measurements, methods, and targets.

  • Obtain and analyze quantitative and qualitative data of business processes to determine solutions and promote data-driven decisions.

  • Research and evaluate opportunities related to process flow variance deficiencies

  • Analyze processes and workflows to understand value chain, input/output, to improve and/or automate business performance.

  • Leverage best practices gained through process improvement activities to other activities that benefit from implementation.

  • Analyze, define, and document technical design for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware, and operating systems environment, interface with other systems, internal and external controls, and output.

  • Provide guidance and advice to management on the most effective and efficient use of resources to obtain measurable process improvements.

  • Ensure the implementation of new and enhanced processes.

  • Ensure business unit awareness of Navy Federal products, services, marketing, promotions, policies, and procedures.

Identify and assess business strategies and opportunities; develop appropriate analytical approaches.

Qualifications

  • Interest in Lean Six Sigma certification (L-6S) or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

  • Interest in Certified Business Process Professional (CBPP) or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

  • Working knowledge of process mapping/modeling and business process reengineering.

  • Experience in leading teams in business process improvement initiatives.

  • Effective project management skills include establishing and leading project teams; managing timelines/deadlines/resources; ensuring successful project implementation.

  • Experience in leading teams in business process improvement initiatives.

  • Effective communication with all levels within an organization.

  • Effective skills exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions.

  • Effective research, analytical, and problem solving skills.

  • Experience in the application of statistical methods, mathematical techniques, forecasting, cost-benefit analysis, and related analytical tools.

  • Effective skill in the analysis of technical issues in order to recommend, develop and/or implement strategies, and achieve objectives.

  • Working knowledge of market trends, business strategies, and technology and their interrelationships.

  • Effective analytical thinking skills include summarizing information and clearly identifying key elements, patterns, results, or relationships.

  • Experience in working effectively with diverse internal and external contacts.

  • Effective analytical/quantitative, reconciliation, and deductive reasoning skills.

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.

  • Software: Asana, Visio, ADO, Qualtrics, Customer Voice, PowerBI, MS Suite: Powerpoint & Excel - must be able to clean, sort, assess, and visualize data using Excel pivot tables, etc.

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Navy Federal is now hybrid! Our standard enterprise requirement for a hybrid schedule is to report onsite 4-16 days each month. The number of days reporting onsite will ultimately be determined by the employee's leadership and business unit needs. You will learn more throughout the hiring and onboarding process.
