This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Data Scientist for our Baltimore, MD office. Be a member of our Planning Advisory Team a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. This position will be working full-time for our client The Maryland Transit Administration, Office of Performance Management/Office of Customer Experience (OPM/OPX) requiring on-site work in the client's office in Baltimore's Inner Harbor 2-3 days per week.
As a Data Scientist, you will work on a scrum team with other embedded Data Scientists, the Manager of Data Science, and the Manager of Performance Programs and Data Analytics. Your work will fall into two categories: building and maintaining technical artifacts, and building and refining processes and policies. The Data Science Team is currently working to expand its capacity, and you will contribute to that effort by building data pipelines in our Data Lake to support enterprise intelligence products, building data services that drive institutional goals, and conducting various analyses to answer specific questions for stakeholders. You will also help develop internal processes and policies by writing and updating pages in our team handbook, building Github actions and unit tests, and collaborating with team members to solve recurring technical problems.
Your Impact
Support efficient and effective operations by analyzing data in R and/or Python programming languages and delivering clear answers to specific questions.
Support the data analyst's Power BI products by designing, building, and modifying data models and datapipelines in a manner consistent with the data science team's data governance policy.
Maintain transparency and minimize technical debt by using Git DevOps platforms to commit code, submitmerge requests, and track your work using issues and epics in a manner consistent with the data science team's DevOps policy.
Prioritize performance management projects by working with the Data Analytics team to define enterpriseobjectives, user stories, and data stories.
Promote teamwork by making meaningful contributions to our team handbook, creating and modifying policies and procedures to enhance productivity.
Honor the data science team's warranty on artifacts in production by debugging and solving programming and data problems.
Identify new opportunities to improve MTA customer experience by conducting self-guided exploratory work or as part of assigned tasks.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Math, Data Analysis, Accounting, Finance or related field.
1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience working as a data scientist/analyst.
A passion for improving public transportation through the effective use of data analytics.
The ability to construct complex queries in SQL involving multiple joins, sub-queries, case when statements, etc.
R and Python programming skills.
Ability to problem-solve independently using Google searches, Stack Overflow, Chat GPT, and other similarresources.
Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully to technical and non-technical staff of differing backgrounds and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with version control such as Git, and cloud-based services such as GitHub.
Experience working on a scrum team.
Prior experience within the engineering consulting industry is preferred.
