GENERAL SUMMARY
The Infection Prevention Associate is responsible for data management, data entry and data reports for the purpose of public health reporting, external benchmarking, infection prevention and quality improvement projects. Reports to the department director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with supervised surveillance activities for Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI), assists with interdepartmental infection prevention inspections and isolation rounds.
Assists in the development of internal auditing tools and manages the data collected from Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) rounds and audits, by building standardized reports for data dissemination.
Produces daily, periodic and ad hoc reports to assist in operations and process management.
Maintains specific data for use by the IPAC Department in the generation of the Infection Prevention and Control dashboard, the CHKD Performance Metrics, Infection Prevention and Control Committee, Solutions for Patient Safety and other department reports and presentations.
Works closely with colleagues to offer project support for IPAC initiatives.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
None required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in a health care related field required. In lieu of the degree, five to seven years of healthcare experience may be considered.
One to two years of previous experience working in a complex healthcare setting and specifically with data analysis and application preferred.
Knowledge of quality improvement, data collection methods and basic statistical methods preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical documentation and use of electronic health records preferred.
Excellent computer skills necessary. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiarity with Access.
Demonstrates the ability to convey complex or technical information in a manner that others can easily understand.
Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and implement problem-solving skills.
Ethical approach to work and to confidentiality/security of data and data sets.
Meticulous attention to detail and data accuracy.
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, exercising discretion and judgment.
Must be adaptable to do work which is varied and requires an intellectual and professional approach.
Interpersonal skills to work with clinical leaders in the use of data for improvement.
Able to document procedures and create user instructions.
Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards suchas excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment. Moderate adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities.
