Azure Cosmos DB is one of the fastest growing Azure services that provides globally distributed, low-latency, massively scalable, multi-model cloud database service. It is designed to enable developers to build planet-scale applications.

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Azure Cosmos DB team, where you will be working on a large-scale, distributed, transactional and analytical database. This role involves areas such as Storage (Row Store, Column Store, Log Structured Store, Tiered Storage), Inverted Index, Database Engines like Bw-Tree, and other(Log-Structured Merge Tree) LSM technologies. In this role, you will work on core engine and distributed systems problems that power the planet and scale database.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support core storage engine features of Cosmos DB to help propel the next wave of growth for Cosmos DB.

  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and provide insightful feedback that helps re-enforce best practices.

  • Participate in on-call rotations, helping our customers mitigate issues and ensuring the product's SLOs (Service-Level Objective) stay green, while developing a deep understanding of the product.

  • Design and implement metrics to measure and highlight the true impact of your work.

  • Develop and implement plans to rollout your work in a safe, staged manner.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Java.

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Java.

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Java.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience in the Data domain, which includes relational or non-relational databases, storage systems, or distributed systems is a plus.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
