Responsibilities

Data Center Operations

  • Demonstrates an applied understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment, as well as a fundamental understanding of the functions of, and interactions between, network and server equipment.

  • Proactively shares relevant information to enable efficient workflow and mitigate the impact that changes to their area of work will have on others; asks questions when they do not have required information and may provide feedback on changes to processes to management.

  • Complies with Data Center Services (DCS) business unit and service-level policies, procedures, and deadlines with guidance from other technicians; escalates resolution of compliance issues to technician leads.

  • Completes assigned tickets efficiently and in alignment with expectations for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) per task type while meeting or exceeding established Service Level Agreements (SLAs), with minimal guidance from other technicians; appropriately escalates tickets to more experienced technicians.

Service Delivery

  • Prepares, stages, sets up, and performs startups and shutdowns (e.g., racks, hard drives, switches) according to specific instructions provided via checklists, guides, standard protocols, and emails; assists and provides guidance to other technicians to complete challenging or complex tasks and escalates issues as needed; may perform tasks in tandem with other technicians to comply with procedures and safety protocols.

  • Performs post-execution quality checks and verifies that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly according to safety protocols, deployment standards, and planned Network Design Tasks (NDTs); may identify errors in deployment standards or NDTs and escalates with engineering and/or relevant specialists to coordinate corrections as needed.

  • Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifies the cause(s) of issues, and replaces faulty components with minimal customer and business disruption; provides guidance to technicians troubleshooting issues to meet or exceed established Service Level Agreements (SLAs); escalates issues with significant customer or business impact to appropriate experts and stakeholders.

  • Follows procedures to communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Microsoft data center operations management units, and Technician Leads; participates in bridge calls to provide details on incident status and executes on-site follow-up actions as directed if necessary; may leverage learnings to contribute to the improvement of quality of service and support.

  • Decommissions hardware for simple changes and refreshes (e.g., memory upgrades, OS rebuilds) following standard procedures with minimal guidance; escalates decommissioning work and discrepancies in projects or tickets to senior or lead technicians when appropriate; processes data-bearing devices for destruction or confirms any data contained have been eradicated.

Managing Services

  • Exercises judgment and discretion to contribute to issue tracking, follow-up, resolution, the overall quality of the service; provides guidance to less experienced technicians around client interactions.

  • Develops an understanding of cross-functional processes to support partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Completes required training aligned to the role and workload; observes more experienced technicians to gain hands-on experience and relevant on-the-job training (OJT); may complete additional training to obtain or maintain relevant role certifications.

Data Center Work Environment

  • Participates in daily safety briefings, completes required safety training, complies with safety procedures (e.g., equipment use, lifting, electrical hazards, ladder/rolling stair use), completes required Task Hazard Analysis (THAs), and uses appropriate tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks; adheres to and promotes a culture of safety, takes action and alerts others to safety concerns and/or incidents; participates in Get Out And Look (GOAL) safety observations.

  • Complies with security and data management procedures and policies and completes required security training; may escort third party vendors or IT support on-premises at data centers or network sites; appropriately takes action and alerts others to security concerns and/or incidents.

  • Contributes to a positive and effective team environment by sharing information with others, contributing in regular team meetings, asking questions and staying apprised of the status of others' work, and partnering with other technicians to complete and/or hand off tickets as needed; responds to feedback received on ways to work more effectively within their team and adopts best practices shared within and across technician teams.

Qualifications

The Global Trade Organization, within the Anti-Corruption, Trade, and Risk Management (ATR) group is responsible for global export compliance for Microsoft's products, services, and technology.

The Global Trade Organization team owns and manages export control processes, ensuring compliance with all applications, laws, and regulations and provides export subject matter expertise internally and externally.

The Trade Manager, Export Compliance Integration (ECI) will be primarily responsible for business engagement in general export compliance matters for Microsoft businesses. This role will work closely with Microsoft business groups to advise and enable international business strategy while complying with Microsoft Global Trade and regulatory requirements. This position will work closely with a cross-functional team, including program/product management, product launch, marketing, engineering, research & development (R&D), operations, legal, and other Trade colleagues to strategically drive and implement export compliance processes throughout the product development lifecycle within these groups. This role will also drive continuous improvement in processes and technology of Global Trade's engagement, from identifying/solving complex exporting scenarios, to collaborating on remediation of identified risk areas / process gaps between the businesses and Global Trade.

This role will be primarily responsible for export classification support to Microsoft's strategic business engagements in hardware and software platforms, ensuring these business groups comply with Global Trade and regulatory requirements. This position will work closely with program/product management, engineering, R&D, and other Trade colleagues to strategically drive and implement jurisdiction and classification processes throughout the product development lifecycle within these groups. This role will also drive continuous improvement in processes and technology of Global Trade's engagement with such business groups, from identifying/solving complex classification challenges, to collaborating on remediation of identified risk areas / process gaps between business processes and Global Trade' compliance integration efforts.

The Trade Manager , ECI , will be a member of the Export Compliance Integration team, which sits in the wider Global Trade Organization. As the Global Trade Organization continues to expand and grow to meet external statutory trends and internal business needs, this Trade Manager will hold key responsibilities in enhancing our export compliance program. This position will also provide business engagement support to Microsoft businesses, with responsibilities in export classification and authorizations, risk assessment and mitigation, internal controls, testing, auditing, incident management, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying hardware, software, and technology for export classification, and providing clear trade compliance guidance (-playbook-) to the business

  • Determiningjurisdiction and classification for such products, including clear rationales with robust documentation, that are repeatable and scalable

  • Providing clarity and guidance to the business on export classification implications

  • Draft U.S. State Department and Commerce Department export classification and authorization requests to enable international business strategy

  • Advise, develop, and implementauthorization strategies to mitigate risk for complex product, software, and technology exporting scenarios, including deemed export compliance

  • Guidance on maintaining commercial viability through design to enhance exportability and compliantly protect our businesses

Additional responsibilities include:

Export Control & Management

  • Responsible for accurate export classification determination (e.g., Export Control Classification Number [ECCN]) for products, services, and technology throughout their lifecycle. Responsible for continuous support, communication, and awareness to stakeholders across different business functions, ensuring compliant and streamlined cross-border movements of goods and technology. Interpret regulatory requirements and company trade policies and procedures, and provide effective solutions while consulting with colleagues to mitigate trade liabilities and risks. Actively collaborate across teams to achieve collective objectives and adapt to evolving company and business priorities, always prioritizing compliance. Effectively represent the Trade Team's business strategy, goals, and their alignment with the team's work.

Compliance

  • Monitor and prepare for changes in export control laws against current business outcomes, and coordinate with CELA (Legal) Trade to manage formality filings, classifications, export licenses and reports. Helps to design, implement, and maintain repeatable, scalable processes to ensure business units are in compliance with export regulatory requirements.Provides factual analyses to support Microsoft's position and offers insight to external government agencies. Identifies, monitors, and contributes to key metrics to ensure efficiency and compliance in the Trade execution and process.

    Stakeholder Engagement

  • Ensure compliant, efficient export compliance across the company by interfacing with internal customers and Legal teams in trade compliance matters. Drive inclusion by proactively listening to diverse perspectives to better understand Microsoft's business for optimal business and compliance outcomes.

  • Proactively identify gaps and draft corresponding action plans to mitigate risk and ensure timelycompletion

Audit

  • Coordinate and facilitate trade gap and risk remediation projects with business stakeholders. Drive and manage internal trade controls and governance monitoring.

    Reporting

  • Contribute to the research, development and implementation of reporting and insights across the enterprise.

  • Ensure compliance with Microsoft reporting requirements, and regulatory filing requirements and recordkeeping.

Training

  • Identify training needs and develop training pertaining to export control requirements for export compliance framework. Facilitate global trade compliance policy training and change management training for internal business development partners.

    Process Improvement

  • Help drive efficiencies for trade processes by monitoring feedback (e.g., from internal audits). Partner with management to determine needed updates, institute policy changes by recommending updates for the compliance procedures, and provide status communication updates. Partner with technology groups to define and prioritize requirements to create and update compliance tools.   • Translate Responsible AI (RAI) Standards and principles relevant to privacy, fairness, reliability & safety, transparency, accountability dimensions developed by our corporate teams into effective controls and scalable implementation practices .   • Perform thorough impact assessments and reviews of applications and platforms applying enterprise responsible AI standards.

  • Document potential remediation to comply with standards and policies. Partner with stakeholders to ensure compliance before launch of AI solutions while using judgement from a design perspective, implementation of RAI principles to be balanced and -traded-off.-

  • Ensure updates to controls, guidance and any training are programmatically managed when policies and standards are updated.

  • Develop operational metrics that demonstrate compliance posture of responsible AI deployments in the division.

  • Actively create opportunities for synergies across engineering, Office of responsible AI and other corporate teams to drive long-term technology solutions and shared roadmaps in the harnessing technology for compliance. The Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) as part of Cloud Security Operations Center team is looking for a Cyber Threat Researcher to work in the Cyber Defense Operations Center (CDOC). As part of this dynamic and high-impact team - you will have the opportunity to seek out adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) in our environment using advanced security technologies combined with your own creative hunting methodologies.

In this role, you will focus on developing and executing threat hunting operations to discover adversary activities that are not detected through traditional detection capabilities. You will be able to leverage first class security partners and threat intelligence teams to derive and hunt on known indicators of compromise, as well as developing strategies for discovering new techniques used by adversaries.

For greatest impact, you will develop and automate your hunt methodologies and findings to operationalize the capability across the Security Operations Center (SOC). Extending beyond the traditional blue team role, you will engage red teams and participate in purple team exercises that will build your perspective of the adversarial mindset as well as identify new techniques that need to be hunted. Finally, you will play a critical role in the improvement to monitoring and response to major Incidents affecting the enterprise.

- Develop, document, and execute threat hunting research with internal teams to identify adversaries and their behaviors, including new/emerging tactics.

- Conduct research that yields new insights, theories, analyses, data, algorithms, and prototypes that advance state-of-the-art of controls, detections, monitoring, and investigation/hunting capabilities or leads to improvements to the protection capabilities of our products and services.

- Develop robust detection and mitigation strategies by studying security researchers, attackers, and real incidents. Identify attack-paths from kill-chains for relevance and long-term effectiveness.

- Identify and collaborate on response to advanced threats, actor techniques, anomalous or suspicious activity, combined with intelligence, to identify potential and active risks to systems and data or to major incidents affecting the enterprise and cloud's infrastructure.
