If you're an experienced sales professional who enjoys interacting at both the operational and ownership level of key paving contractors, Caterpillar has an Account Manager opening within our GCI North America Paving Sales Team that may be right for you! In this role, you will grow account revenue and market share with the largest and most influential customers in the Milling and Reclamation segments of the paving industry. You will work closely with our dealer network and internal partners, building solutions to exceed customer expectations with the goal of growing year over year revenue within your portfolio.

What You'll Do (Essential Functions)

  • Build Relationships - With and through our Dealers, establish deep relationships and build trust with key decision makers at your target accounts.

  • Deliver Sales Goals - Leverage your relationships with both Internal and Dealer partners to develop solutions that enable achievement of sales objectives.

  • Develop/Execute Account Strategies - Work with senior management to develop and implement customized market strategies for your assigned accounts, and secure commitment of Caterpillar and Dealer resources to ensure continued customer satisfaction.

  • Collect Customer Requirements - Collect and translate voice-of-customer inputs to help shape the design and features of Caterpillar products. Likewise, share Caterpillar developments and strategies these customers should consider going forward.

  • Sell our Value - Ensure account decision makers have been fully exposed to the value proposition available from Caterpillar's products and services, and from our Dealers' capabilities, before they make a purchase decision.

  • Ensure Customer Satisfaction - Take necessary steps to ensure product health to maintain customer satisfaction and enable PINS growth.

  • Travel in the field (up to 75%) - This position covers customers located in the Eastern region of the U.S. and Canada, and makes regular visits to both office and job locations to develop relationships and provide advice/counsel relative to commercial opportunities, product support and product application & operation.

How You'll be Successful (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of professional experience.

  • 10+ years of sales and/or account management experience in the heavy equipment, construction or industrial industries.

  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time within assigned territory.

Top Candidates will Also Have (Desired Qualifications)

  • Service and after service support experience in the paving and road building industry.

  • Effective Communicator - Able to connect with customer at multiple levels, including; machine operators, job superintendents, equipment managers and senior leadership/owners.

  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.

  • Deep knowledge of Caterpillar products, especially our Cold Planers and Reclaimer Mixers used in this target segment.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Caterpillar's dealer network and Caterpillar's organization.

  • Previous field experience supporting Caterpillar dealers and equipment.

This position serves customers in the Eastern US and Eastern Canada plus the state of Texas. The selected candidate will operate from an in-territory home office location with proximity to a major airport (driving distance of 50 miles or less) for travel efficiency. Additionally, the selected candidate may also reside in Minneapolis, MN to benefit from proximity to the GCI Paving Leadership team.

  • Relocation assistance is not available.

  • Eastern time zone residence is preferred but central time zones within territory may be considered.
