BESS Engineer OR Engineering Analyst (SPC Renewable Energy O&M)
JOB SUMMARY
This position manages the day-to-day operation and maintenance of renewable facilities (primarily Battery Energy Storage Systems) for Southern Power Company. Primary responsibilities include:
Supporting SPC O&M strategy for current and future BESS facilities
Proactively managing relationships, equipment issues, and plant outages to understand issues and drive to satisfactory resolution
Managing service agreements and contracts (in particular the LTSA, BESA, and PPA) to achieve optimal results for the SPC BESS fleet
Interpretation of operational data, assessing needs and implementing solutions that optimize the performance of SPC's BESS fleet
Understanding plant operation details and handling communication of updates and resolutions to management, peer groups and other internal and external stakeholders
Developing status reports and presentations for leadership updates
Develop and maintain capital and O&M budgets to optimize Net Income and ensure cost effective utilization of company assets
Processing invoices for SPC provided expenses
Develop and implement asset management strategy to streamline data entry, improve record retention, and minimize the potential for missed objectives
Ensuring that all compliance and regulatory requirements are met
Participating in and leading periodic face to face meetings and status calls with internal and external stakeholders
Coordinating site visits to renewable facilities
Attending conferences to develop and leverage relationships with industry peers and OEMs to keep a pulse on the market and ensure SPC continues to be a fast follower for BESS solutions
Working with other SPC departments including but not limited to, Generation Support, Commercial Optimization and Trading, Origination & Acquisitions, Accounting, Project Siting, Development and EPC, Project Analysis and Market Assessment, and Compliance and External Affairs concerning renewable operations
Supporting due diligence of asset acquisitions and new development projects
Preferred locations for this position include Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA or one of our BESS facilities in California (located in Kern County and Fresno County). If working from one of the preferred locations, a hybrid work schedule will be enforced. Relocation assistance is available.
Overnight travel is required to renewable facilities located in various parts of the United States including, but not limited to, Georgia, West Virginia, Texas, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Maine, Washington, California, New Mexico, and Kansas.

Job experience in the following areas is required:
Power plant operations and maintenance experience (battery, photovoltaic, wind or fossil fuel power generation can all provide relevant experience)
Project management skills (managing scope, schedule, and budget)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Job experience in the following areas is strongly preferred:
Contract management experience
Experience managing capital and O&M budgets
Asset management experience, including use of asset management software such as Maximo
Ability to interpret operational data - PI or OIS experience a plus
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&ID drawings, single lines, etc.)
Ability to develop and communicate Key Performance Indicators to internal and external stakeholders
Other relevant experience includes:
Power plant design and construction
Generation development
Utility system planning

Pursuant to California law, the reasonable wage expectation for this position is $72,186/yr - $137,229/yr.
