Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Air Quality Scientists to join our Environmental Planning and Permitting team in our New York City office. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering professional consulting services to our key clients.

This position is expected to begin in June/July 2025.

AECOM's Environmental Planning and Permitting group in New York and New Jersey is seeking a qualified scientist to perform air quality and/or noise impact analyses through using mathematical modeling tools and conducting ambient and source air and noise monitoring programs. In addition to office work, candidate will be required to perform field work in both urban and rural settings.

The candidate will join a large established team conducting environmental assessment and remediation projects across the states of New York and New Jersey. The candidate will communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and work both independently and as a part of a project team. Note this role may require travel outside of New York and New Jersey (from days to weeks) to support projects as needed across the United States.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing routine fieldwork working under close supervision from project managers. Field work may include remedial oversight in

  • Participating in site visits and coordinating and assisting field staff as required.

  • Performing work in accordance with agreed upon responsibilities and schedule under supervision.

  • Develop knowledge of job-specificfederal, state, and local laws and regulations and assigned job specifications.

  • Collecting and analyzing data under the supervision of an experienced scientist/engineer.

  • Attending meetings and reporting on project tasks.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science or related field + 0 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Valid Driver's License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.

  • Due to the nature of work US Citizenship is required.

  • Estimated office/field time: 70% / 30%. Must be willing to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1+ year of experience related to Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science or related field

  • Strong analytical and computational skill.

  • Ability to work as part of a larger team a must.

  • Eager to learn various air and noise modeling software.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Candidate must have excellent technical writing skills and ability to effectively discussion his or her work.

  • Candidate must be detail oriented and have the ability to work independently.

  • Candidate must be experienced with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with ArcGIS, sound levels meter, and/or air monitoring equipment a plus.

  • Experience with modelling software (AutoCAD, AERMOD, MOVES, CadnaA or SoundPLAN) also a plus

  • Candidate must be able to pass requirements of an OSHA screening physical (HAZWOPER).

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $56,000.00 - $75,000.00.
