Hobart Brothers, a division of ITW, provides innovative and high-quality filler metal solutions (including metal-cored, flux-cored, aluminum, and solid wires, as well as stick electrodes) to customers around the world. Hobart Brothers has manufacturing facilities in Troy, OH, Piqua, OH, and Traverse City, MI.
This position operates within the Hobart Filler Metals Technical Center and will serve as the Hobart Product Safety & Compliance Champion. This individual will also provide key support and expertise to other ITW welding BU's whose products involve customer safety.
Essential Functions:
Hobart customer safety lead
Manage REACH, RoHS, and other relevant product certification and compliance
Oversee and drive excellence in Hobart's product hazard communications, such as product labels, websites, spec sheets, etc.
Work with Applications Engineering and R&D to develop a comprehensive database of safety information for Hobart product lines.
Work with outside contractor to ensure that product SDSs and labels are up to date and fully compliant with GHS, OSHA and other regulatory bodies.
Respond to customer inquiries pertaining to safety and product SDSs.
Attend safety related code and committee functions and report back on essential health and safety industry developments with organizations such as the American Welding Society or the International Institute of Welding
Help inform and shape Long Range Plan and New Product Development efforts related to emerging trends and value-added enhancements to the health & safety of our products.
Coordinate and draft case studies as needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of our products as related to health & safety.
Work with key customers, product specialist, and corporate account managers to address customer specific needs related to health & safety.
Reinforce a safety-first work culture and drive process excellence with regard to our communication and advocacy of the safe use of our products.
Assist with/lead safety training efforts for both internal and external customers. Attend safety conferences (such as AIHce) to promote Hobart products, as required.
Assist ITW Legal with materials related to Hobart products.
Other Responsibilities:
Work with other ITW business units regarding industrial hygiene, customer wellness, & safety of our products.
Coordinate cross-divisional efforts within ITW Welding geared towards comprehensive, system wide safety solutions.
Travel 10-25%
Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related field. Master's preferred.
Knowledge of Materials Science or Welding a plus, especially as it pertains to filler metals and the welding environment.
Preference toward Industrial Hygiene certificate or degree, or willingness to pursue one in the future.
6-10 years of relevant work experience is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Study and/or experience in industrial safety and hygiene practices.
Must be a hands-on, aggressive, team player, a self-starter. Possess the flexibility to effectively address a wide range of technical challenges
Collaboration expected with Product Development, Applications and Process teams to identify solutions to complex issues
Able to lead by influence rather than direct authority and function as part of a dynamic multi-disciplined technical and market-facing team
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills
Manage multiple tasks, with potential for project leadership roles
