This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Environmental Technician for our Pittsburgh, PA office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

- Will travel frequently to project sites, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team.

- Will require site work around heavy construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environmental contamination.

- Candidate will be required to follow all applicable health and safety procedures associated with work environment.

- Conduct on-site environmental inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permit conditions, project plans, and other environmental commitments.- Preparation of written inspection reports including photo documentation, construction status reports, compliance tracking logs, etc.- Provide guidance regarding proper installation, maintenance, and removal of erosion and sediment control measures.- Conduct and assist with environmental training.- Correspondence with contractor, agency, and client personnel.- Conducting any required sampling of soil, groundwater or air.- Onsite waste tracking/management and coordinating transportation, and/or disposal of/for various media

- Workload is expected to occur mostly in the field.

- Candidate may be required to work overtime hours in excess of 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week on a routine or as-needed basis. Overtime, weekends, and overnight stays can be expected.

- Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

- BA/BS Degree in Environmental Science, Biological Resources, or related field preferred. Minimum of five years of similar experience necessary.

- Possesses knowledge of pipeline construction activities with experience working around heavy equipment. Strong understanding of Industry Standards relating to erosion and sediment control practices, wetland crossings, stream crossings, agricultural lands, cultural resources, sensitive species and other environmental aspects of pipeline construction projects.

- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings and other technical documents. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations pertaining to pipeline construction projects.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency.

- Physical Job Requirements - Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to drive large pick-up truck; ability to drive a trailer helpful. Ability to use hands to operate field equipment. Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function.

- Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam. Must pass drug screening.

- Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening, have a valid driver's license, and have an insurable driving record.

- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
