Senior Accountant
JOB SUMMARY:
This Accountant position is primarily responsible for performing financial accounting functions related to revenue recognition including the review of new contracts, analysis of monthly billings, preparation of regulatory filings, and analysis and presentation of monthly results to executive management associated with revenues for Southern Linc. Position would be primary contact for Southern Company Services Tax department, coordinating and responding to quarterly and ad hoc data requests related to sales & use tax and income tax for both Southern Linc and Southern Telecom. Assist Finance team with the preparation of annual budget, monthly analysis of actual results, and quarterly preparation of year-end projections related to Southern Linc revenues and other miscellaneous Comptroller organization expenses. Additional accounting responsibilities include, but not limited to, preparing journal entries, analyzing monthly results, completing account reconciliations, preparing monthly financial statements, providing accounting direction to those outside of Accounting, and maintaining processes documentation.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
Five plus years of accounting experience is required.
Active CPA license is required.
Experience in performing analysis of financial transactions and results is required.
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) is required.
Experience with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings is a plus.
Experience with Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) is a plus.
Experience with Oracle Cloud ERP is a plus.
Experience with MS Office (specifically Excel) is required.
Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking, initiative-taking critical thinking skills, and excellent follow through.
Effective written and verbal communication skills within team and Executive management
Excellent team interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work on cross-functional teams effectively.
Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monthly recording of revenues, regulatory fees, taxes, and pension benefits in accordance with GAAP, FERC, and the SEC and maintaining proper support documentation.
Provide explanations for monthly trial balance review with accounting team and management.
Preparation and analysis of regulated external and internal reports and SEC footnotes related to revenue.
Prepare various internal accounting and financial reports including actual vs budget analyses.
Perform analysis of balance sheet account reconciliations.
Provide accounting research, information, and assistance for special projects and data requests.
Maintain current documentation of accounting processes.
Assist both internal and external auditors with data requests.
Ensure internal controls surrounding responsibilities are adequate and functioning.
