What We're Looking For
We are currently seeking a Construction Inspector in our Seattle, Washington office to continue to grow our Pacific Northwest Construction Services practice. This position will be based in a field office at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and will provide construction inspection during the contractor's nightshift. We are looking for an independent, self-starter with at least 4 years' construction inspection or field engineering experience. Preferred experience includes airport, hospital, and/or military projects.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Inspects, monitors, and documents construction field work activities to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
Maintains documentation including logs, reports, materials testing, force accounts, and other construction records.
Provides proactive communication and coordination with resident engineering team, client, and contractor, including attending meetings.
Identifies construction issues, proactively recommends solutions, and assists in the resolution of issues.
Verifies field measurements/quantities for payments.
Identifies and tracks contractor's non-compliant or deficient work and prepares non-conformance reports as needed
Reports observed safety deficiencies and violations.
Assists with update of record drawings.
Performs contract close-out documentation.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local agency construction administration policies.
Gains exposure to new industry technology and utilizes it to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
OSHA 10 certified preferred
Agency safety training certified preferred.
Experience on airport, hospital, and/or military projects.
Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Bluebeam, & Adobe.
Familiarity with engineering, architectural, and construction documents.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to maintain good working relationships with project team, clients, and contractors.
Ability to anticipate problems, proactively develop solutions to overcome those problems, and discern when escalation is necessary.
Flexibility to work hours dictated by the contractor's schedule, including long-term nightshifts.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
What You'll Need
Essential Responsibilities:
Performs office management engineer work when needed including but not limited to; prepares documentation for change orders, reviews change order scope of work, schedule and cost, processes and maintains tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables. Assists in constructability reviews.
Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Reads, interprets, and confirms compliance with applicable contract documents.
Performs or oversees on-site material testing. Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for the tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications and identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
Reviews contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.
Responsible for maintaining as-constructed drawings and monitors contractors progress to analyze against progress schedule.
Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
Mentors and trains staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in relevant field and 6 years relevant experience.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field and 4 years relevant experience.
