As a Senior Staff Accountant II - Accountable Results, supporting the Resource Industries segment within the Advanced Components Manufacturing (ACM) organization, you'll have the opportunity to gain a broad range of knowledge and skills, work on exciting and impactful projects, and collaborate with colleagues and business partners across the globe.

This position will provide expertise on complex business, financial or managerial issues within a business unit or corporate environment. Additionally, this position will/must:

  • have the ability to analyze and understand impact and have a broader perspective on specific accounting issues. This requires a comprehensive understanding of Caterpillar's business accounting issues and full support of the ACM leadership team.

  • act as a teacher on accounting issues to staff accountants as well as non-accountants

  • resolve issues independently

  • lead and/or direct teams within or outside of discipline addressing complex problems

  • take full responsibility for outcomes

Senior Staff Accountant II's are knowledgeable on a variety of accounting functions but generally have specialized areas of responsibility at this level. This position has the ability to accomplish complex and/or technical analysis, but generally utilizes data gathered by others to render an accounting opinion or business decision. Incumbent will provide advice/recommendations to ACM and Finance Leaders, often working on tactical and strategic business issues.

Possible specific areas of responsibility could include but are not limited to:

  • internal management accounting, including profit center, service center, distribution services, strategic business, integrated manufacturing, and component business unit reporting

  • coordination of purchased services, transfer prices, and accountable target costs

  • estimating various forecast and budget scenarios as needed based on changing business conditions

  • financial accounting including consolidation, analysis and communication of division or multiple business units results / explanations

  • presentation and explanation of results to management

  • communication of results to corporate offices

  • accounting user representative for financial systems

  • Lead strategic projects supporting Finance and/or ACM strategy

Senior Staff Accountant II's must demonstrate specific accounting knowledge and independently handle accounting issues. Accounting tasks can be varied in areas such as:

  • providing financial guidance on cross-functional or business unit product teams

  • developing methodology and providing education to accounting and non-accounting staffs and cross-functional teams

  • communicating / consulting to broader (worldwide) audience on financial accounting issues

  • designing and implementing financial systems and tools

  • drive behavior (ability to influence management directions) in accordance with financial targets and business unit / division / enterprise strategy

Basic Requirements:

  • 4-year degree in accounting OR any 4-year degree with an accounting certification

  • 6-8 years of accounting experience

  • High levels of initiative, leadership, good judgment and the ability to communicate effectively

  • Broad understanding of accounting business processes, process improvement

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar business, products, suppliers and customers
