Environmental Analyst/Specialist/Engineer - Water Programs

This is a hybrid work position that will require you to be IN-OFFICE @ 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA a minimum of three (3) days per week and/or as required.

Summary of Position Duties
The Environmental Analyst / Engineer position is responsible for developing, communicating, and implementing water-related environmental programs, guidelines, and compliance strategies for Georgia Power. This position will focus on multiple compliance programs, especially those involving the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, and the Georgia Water Quality Act.
Additional responsibilities may include representing Georgia Power Company before regulatory agencies, external groups, and the public. This position is also responsible for obtaining permits and licenses, reporting monitoring results and developing and implementing compliance program reviews/audits.
This position may be filled as an Environmental Specialist or Engineer depending on education and/or demonstrated mastery of the environmental regulatory program areas and responsibilities described below.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
Develop cost-effective compliance strategies for water related regulations and permits, including environmental guidelines, communications, and training. Specific compliance programs include but are not limited to the Clean Water Act, Georgia Water Quality Act, Georgia NPDES Program, and Safe Drinking Water Act.
Obtain all required water-related environmental permits, licenses, and certifications to support electric generating facilities.
Monitor compliance programs through regular program reviews, task tracking (Enablon) and customer engagement to assure adherence to applicable regulations and permits. Assist with development of and revision to business unit procedures/policies related to water programs.
Make decisions as to the effectiveness of compliance activities and report to environmental management and company business units.
Influence, track, and interpret environmental regulations and policy at the federal and state level. Positively engage regulatory agencies to promote informed, balanced, and science-based regulations and permit requirements. Develop and maintain positive relationships with the U.S. EPA, Georgia EPD, and others.
Provide interface and input to Southern Company environmental personnel regarding federal or industry environmental issues related to water programs. Organize and coordinate with other utilities and industry groups to influence and comment on proposed state rules, regulations and permits.
Develop partnerships with all levels of business units and electric generating facilities management to implement cost-effective solutions, training programs and innovative technologies to eliminate or minimize environmental risks. Incorporate Environmental Management System (EMS) components in business unit processes and identify opportunities to improve compliance.
Promote and support the Company's environmental policies, conservation, and stewardship in all areas of the business and external engagement.
Job Requirements
Education Requirements:
BS degree in engineering or science related field (i.e. biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc.)
Professional certification in an applicable engineering or science related field a plus.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in environmental permitting, compliance and program development, preferably with the following:
Georgia NPDES Program
Georgia Water Quality Act
Georgia Safe Drinking Water Act
Georgia Groundwater Use Act
Stormwater, wastewater, drinking water certifications and licensure highly desirable.
Industrial wastewater treatment and experience with steam-electric power generation a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to synthesize information and communicate in a manner suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule which may include non-traditional hours and travel.
Working knowledge of applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to translate data into actionable insights.

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver's license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver's license).
Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
