Caterpillar's Electrification + Advanced Power Solutions (E+APS) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

The Chief Engineer, Battery Mechanical and Thermal Systems will play a key role in the technology and product line architecture of multiple battery product lines. Through the technical leadership of key battery systems, this role is responsible for delivering value to the customer through the design and development of products that meet their cost, performance, durability, and quality needs. Working with various battery engineering managers, this critical role is accountable for setting and delivering key aspects of the product lines' technical and architectural vision to meet the product requirements.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Ensuring alignment between and facilitate execution of the battery product strategy and battery technology roadmap in relationship to battery mechanical and thermal systems
Providing deep technical expertise and leadership to R&D team related to battery systems
Ensuring the product development organization has the processes and tools to facilitate success
Converting customer requirements established by business leadership and product teams into a basic product concept; establishing project timing, cost constraints and value targets for all major systems
Ensuring technical success of the overall product line as well as project success (meeting deadlines, cost, and quality targets).
Focusing on long-range business strategy and planning for future technology, product families, major processes and services and technical resources
Participating in sourcing, workforce planning, mentoring, and developing the next generation of technical expertise within the product group while consciously establishing a culture encouraging innovation and collaboration
Developing strong internal and external networks including customers, suppliers, product managers, component and systems managers as well as other technical members of each product team
Basic Requirements:
Master's Degree or Ph.D. in engineering from an accredited program
12 or more years of relevant engineering experience in power and/or powertrain systems
6 or more years of experience directly related to product development of Li-ion based battery systems
Demonstrated expertise in new technology integration
Experience through multiple new product introduction cycles
Preferred Requirements:
Experience in construction machines, industrial applications, or automotive industries
Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, other engineering disciplines will be fully considered
Breadth of experiences spanning design, simulation, and validation
Demonstrated expertise in setting requirements based for the technical aspects of product, systems, and their applications
Demonstrated ability to integrate major technologies, products, and diverse strategies
Experience and skills in building relationships and support across multiple organizational groups
Experience leading and coaching others
Additional Information:
Position may require up to 25% domestic and international travel
Position may sit in: Chicago, IL, Peoria, IL, Detroit MI,
Hybrid work schedule is available. Role supports a combination of remote work and on-site work on a weekly basis
