Job Summary:

The primary duties of a SCADA Engineer are to provide engineering services for the design and implementation of PowerSecure SCADA systems. These engineering activities are to provide professional SCADA, Networking, Server Configuration and Control System engineering services associated with the design of the low and medium voltage distributed energy resources (DERs). This will be based on customer or internally provided plans and specifications that will be submitted and then released for implementation in accordance with engineering procedures and standards. Will also work with appropriate personnel to create these standards if these are found to be lacking and/or missing and in a way that junior level employees can learn from.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related technical field from an accredited university. 8+ years of relevant experience may be acceptable in lieu of educational requirements.

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in an industrial engineering or power distribution engineering environment.

  • PE License Preferred.

  • Ignition Gold Certification or willing to certify in 6 months.

  • Experience with 2-D AutoCAD software.

  • Proficient with industrial automation communication protocols such as PROFINET, ModBus, DNP3, CAN, and Ethernet.

  • Proficient with industrial automation software packages such as Crimson 3, Proficy Machine Edition, Ignition, TIA Portal, or other related packages.

  • Proficient with industrial automation software packages such as TIA Portal or Proficy Machine Edition or other related packages.

  • Proficient with in IP networking, L2/L3 network protocols and industrial switching technologies.

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of time.

  • Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills with a desire for continuous improvement.

  • Proficient with networking.

  • Proficient with ladder logic programming.

  • An understanding of the NEC.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Ability to interact with peers and management.

  • Knowledge of structured programming communications and various protocols.

  • Ask perspective questions and listen -between the lines- to obtain necessary information.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and communicate with other engineering groups as well as sales, marketing, and operations.

  • Review construction drawings to ensure their accuracy.

  • Design, document, implement and maintain SCADA systems and components for the PowerSecure offerings.

  • Review specifications to verify SCADA design can operate as intended including verifying conduit paths, communication medium and shown devices.

  • Create Communication Diagram for project using SCADA standards.

  • Attend and be an active member engineering team kick off meeting. Present Communication Diagram if available. If not, available preliminary version should be created in one week.

  • Verify appropriate communication components are on Bill of Materials (BOM) for the project.

  • Ensure schedules and milestone dates are achieved via our ERP system.

  • Provide technical advice relating to SCADA and control systems.

  • Create programming files for the various control and communication devices associated with the SCADA system using SCADA design templates.

  • Create monitoring documentation using templates and following the delivery process to monitoring.

  • Provide coordination and documentation for other PowerSecure design teams.

  • Resolve any outstanding questions or issues for the SCADA design.

  • Provide technical support as needed during working and non-working hours.

  • Support design standardization efforts internal SCADA Engineering and with other groups.

  • Evaluate new communication components or protocols before install on project.

  • Support Test when issues arise in the factory.

  • Troubleshoot site issues alongside commissioning team as they arise.

  • Communicate clearly to Engineering Manager when issues arise or when ideas arise for continuous improvement.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The employee is required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time.

  • Must have the manual dexterity to manipulate small components, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work in front of screens for extended periods.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Work environment includes ambient room temperatures, well-lit work areas and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
