Safety and Health Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:
This position leads the plant's Safety and Health Team and ensures the compliance and wellbeing of all personnel. This position provides direction, training, documentation, reports, and performs analytics to on all personnel. Responsible for the effective communication of safety and health related information to the plant. Ensure site's safety business plan, emergency action plans, including incident command systems, are adequately maintained and drilled. Interfaces with OSHA, external EMS organizations, external agencies, and internal support organizations. Serves as liaison between management, external support, external agencies, and ERT.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Field experience as it relates to fossil power plant generation and general industry safety standards is required
CSP certification is preferred
4 year occupational safety and health related degree is preferred
Successful completion of Plant Safety training programs and OSHA specific training preferred
OSHA Certification is preferred
OSHA 30 is preferred
In-depth knowledge of current safety and health laws and regulations as they apply to fossil generation and general industry is preferred
Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations and procedures
Prior experience partnering with outside regulatory and support agencies is preferred
Excellent written and communication skills
Knowledge of Self Assessment (Auditing) procedures and processes is a plus.
Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills required, coupled with high integrity and ethics
Consistently models all aspects of our Ethics and Values
Consistently demonstrates initiative, self-motivation, and excellent organizational skills
Prior experience in developing compliance strategies, policies and procedures preferred.
Proficient computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word are required
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain knowledge of new and current safety and health laws and regulations as they apply to Generation and uses that knowledge to ensure full compliance with all regulations, policies and procedures.
Interfaces with regulatory agencies, assists in program writing, and ensures notification of the appropriate agency(ies) in cases of non-compliance
Effectively manages and works to eliminate risks associated with Safety and Health programs
Proactively leads and implements Safety, Health, and Wellness Initiatives
Assists in the development and implementation of plant compliance strategies, policies, procedures, action plans, and guidelines in the areas of safety and health
Teaches Safety and Health policies and procedures
Performs root cause analysis on all incidents and reports findings
Provides leadership to the Safety Committee
Provides leadership in general safety meetings and department safety meetings
Supports the Emergency Response Team and responds to emergencies
Investigates non-compliance incidents and ensures appropriate reporting and notification
Maintains the confidentiality of reports and incidents, as well as disability management cases
Ensures compliance with permits by monitoring equipment and interfacing and communicating with plant personnel and contractors
Leads a Behavior Based Safety Program to ensure employees work safely every day
Performs specific safety and health tests and maintains current knowledge of other tests to ensure they are performed correctly
Performs safety walk downs (audits to eliminate risks associated with Safety and Health
Educates plant personnel on job risks, risk mitigation methods, and compliance-related issues (safety and health) using various skills and techniques
Works with onsite contractors to ensure safety and health compliance for all employees
