Job Summary:

POSITION IS LOCATED IN DURHAM, NC. NOT REMOTE

PowerSecure Data Solutions is a team focused on thought leadership, data architecture/engineering, and development of data management solutions for PowerSecure and its customers. We strive to simplify access to needed data, and partner with business stakeholders to put our data assets to work for PowerSecure and its customers. Data from applications aligned with business processes, data from energy markets and utilities relative to our customers, data from third parties, data that's structured and unstructured, but data that when assembled provides PowerSecure the information necessary to achieve a strategic advantage as a leading distributed energy innovation

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Math, Business or another relevant academic discipline.

  • Eight or more years of professional IT experience.

  • Three or more years of architecture leadership experience is preferred.

  • Experience building application and\or data architecture roadmaps.

  • Experience designing, integrating, and managing complex applications & data solutions.

  • Strong technical knowledge for designing and implementing data integration & migration, data management, data analytic & reporting solutions. Including but not limited to the following:

  • On-premises and cloud-based data and information management systems - SQL Server, Oracle, Time-series Historians, Denodo, Microsoft Azure, Databricks, and others.

  • SSIS, APIs, Kafka, etc.

  • SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, etc.

  • Matlab, Python, R, etc.

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as SQL, Python, C#, Spark, and/or R. Utilize architectural methods and standards to design secure application integrations and data provisioning methodologies for reporting and analytics.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design technology upon which data management will occur for PowerSecure, on the Microsoft Azure platform and across other cloud and on-premises data sources.

  • Designing data storage, data processing, and data integration solutions; ensuring data security, scalability, and performance.

  • Design highly scalable and extensible architectures which enable the secure collection, storage, relating, describing, modeling, and analysis of a myriad of datasets, including time-series, structured, and unstructured data.

  • Implement & maintain technology upon which data management will occur for PowerSecure.

  • Integrate data from multiple sources, which may include databases, APIs, log files, and external data sets, ensuring data is accurately collected, merged, and consolidated for analysis.

  • Select appropriate Azure services and create a data architecture that aligns with business needs.

  • Partnering with other architects and leaders to influence direction and align our technology approaches.

  • Casting our data management vision and technology roadmaps to influence others towards its adoption and necessary planning.

  • Design and influence the adoption of the frameworks for how governance, management & modeling data for PowerSecure will be done.

  • Demonstrating techniques to influence adoption and prime the efforts of TO and business partners.

  • Mentoring teammates around that vision and toward techniques and innovations that will be utilized to deliver data products and solutions.

  • Optimize data solutions for performance, scalability, and reliability; recommending and implementing enhancements with teammates, peers, and business partners.

  • The ability to understand business objectives for data and engineer business solutions that leverage current and innovative data technology capabilities and provide valuable insights to relevant stakeholders.

  • Advanced understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of all-things data - databases, data integration, data governance, data science, advanced analytics & reporting, cloud-based data management, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.

  • The ability to set architectural direction and standards while applying analytical, engineering, hardware, and software design theories to develop and maintain organizational strategy.

  • Ability to organize technology and product delivery for iterative development via Agile methodologies.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of software, application, data, and systems engineering.

  • Strong data modeling skills and understanding of data warehouse design techniques.

  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required. Bringing new ideas and innovations to the team.

  • Partner with business and technology subject matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions.

  • The ability to -think big- and challenge conventional wisdom regarding technology, data, information & analytics.

  • Capable of building productive relationships with teammates and business partners focused on teamwork and cooperation.

  • Excellent organization and time management skills, and capable of managing time and priorities to effectively respond to emerging needs and meet upcoming deadlines and commitments.

  • Able to work in a professional environment with limited direct supervision.

  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with business and technical groups. A demonstrated ability to build consensus among many stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of application development practices and enterprise design.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, often solving problems and providing solutions for business partners, but more frequently equipping them or others with the knowledge and necessary tools for self-sufficiency.

  • Capable of identifying and implementing technical and business orientated process improvements.

  • Familiar with modern software development, source control and change management methodologies.

  • The ability to be comfortable with ambiguity and a willingness to take principled bets on new technology.

  • Strong customer service skills with the capability to manage expectations, fulfill commitments and meet project deadlines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment and have constant high-quality standards.

  • Manual dexterity to operate digital equipment, including computers and PLC's, protective relays, controllers, and other such equipment with small fine buttons and operators.

  • Must be able to work at a desk and use a computer for extended periods of time.
