Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY Reports to designated department leadership and functions under the supervision and guidance of a registered CT Technologist and/or Radiologists. Works with leadership and Radiologists to provide, enhance, and maintain high levels of radiation safety for producing high quality images.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs and/or assists with computerized tomography (CT) and radiographic examinations and procedures under the direction of a Radiologist or delegating practitioner to produce exams which are used in medical diagnosis to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body.

  • Provides services to support inpatient, ED, and outpatient imaging with the ability to perform specialty-imaging procedures.

  • Works in conjunction with the Sedation and Anesthesia departments to facilitate and ensure timely placement of add-on/urgent examinations.

  • Assures customer satisfaction (interdepartmental, community and patient/family) with services.

  • Assists and supports students and new hire orientation and training.

  • Evaluates CT and Radiographic images for technical quality.

  • Educates patients and families.

  • Follows established policies, procedures, exam protocols and regulations to promote patient safety and ensure a safe work environment.

  • Performs daily radiation QA to ensure that the guidelines of ALARA are followed.

  • Ensures continuing educations requirements.

  • Seeks guidance from management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice.

  • May be required to take charge/supervisory responsibilities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Registration or Certification as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) required.

  • Certification as a Computerized Tomography (CT) technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) must be obtained within 21 months of hire.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of CT and Radiographic principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of CT Scanners and Radiographic equipment as normally acquired through completion of two years post high school training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.

  • Approximately three to twelve months job experience necessary in order to become proficient in producing quality scans and gain familiarity with department policies, procedures, and hospital environment.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients/families, nursing personnel and physicians.

  • Analytical skills necessary to determine best method of providing required CT exams and radiographs based on the individual case and basic technical principles, ensuring clear undistorted images.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in venipuncture for injecting contrast.

  • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS Clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations of body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment.
