WORK LOCATION
This position will support Alabama Power's Barry Cluster which includes Barry Steam Plant in Bucks, Alabama, the Washington County Cogen, and Theodore Cogen facilities
This position will have some flexibility for remote teleworking occasionally but must maintain a consistent presence at the plant sites
Some limited travel is required, including an estimated 15% travel requirement within the territory it supports - primarily the coastal area and some limited travel to Birmingham or Atlanta.
JOB SUMMARY
Excellent opportunity for an HR professional with strong HR Business Partner experience to join Southern Company, one of the largest and most respected utilities in the nation. We are actively seeking an individual with the ability to be a strategic business partner working with our plant management team. This position will support Alabama Power's Barry Cluster which includes Barry Steam Plant in Bucks, Alabama (just north of Mobile), the Washington County Cogen and Theodore Cogen facilities and strategic HR initiatives and projects within Operations Human Resources. The position is located at Barry Steam Plant. There are no direct reports for this position. This position could also support additional customer groups as business needs dictate.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for providing HR solutions to support Southern Company Generation.
HRBPs offer expertise in the areas of talent acquisition, employee development, employee relations, compensation, employment law and regulations, succession and developmental planning, workforce planning and strategic staffing, organizational effectiveness and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As an integral part of the plant's leadership team, the HRBP collaborates closely with leadership to recommend human resource solutions and support the plant achieving its business goals.
The successful candidate will not only have a solid background in HR, but also will have demonstrated ability consulting with managers, facilitating high-level discussions, supporting employee development, managing human resources projects, programs, and company initiatives.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
Advanced degree and/or SPHR-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SHRM- CP certification desirable
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in multiple human resources disciplines working with a broad range of employees (union / non-union, exempt / non-exempt) desired
Demonstrated ability to consult with all levels of management through building effective relationships, facilitating discussions, offering objective solutions, influencing, and demonstrating a flexible and adaptive approach
Experience in a direct HR consulting role with internal customers, including senior management, is highly desired
Experience in human resources in a plant/manufacturing, working with a union workforce and/or public utility environment preferred
Prior experience with strategic staffing, workforce planning, succession planning, HR project management and change management highly desired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated technical knowledge of a variety of HR disciplines such as employee relations, compensation, employee development, organizational effectiveness, employment law and compliance, strategic staffing and workforce planning and diversity, equity and inclusion consulting is required.
Must possess comprehensive knowledge of HR policies and practices and understand their application in solving customer business challenges.
Ability to use analytical skills to interpret workforce data, identify trends and translate into recommendation for action
Ability to diplomatically offer objective and creative solutions to customer issues
Ability to respect and maintain confidential and sensitive information
Ability to champion and influence change
High level of personal initiative and responsibility
A flexible and adaptable approach to consulting services and consult with multiple customer groups.
Consulting, critical thinking, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills are desired.
