Summary of Position Duties:

This position performs technical and analytical services essential to the proper operation and maintenance of a power generating plant. Responsibilities for this position include the proper monitoring and operation of the chemical protection equipment associated with all boilers, turbines, and related steam generating equipment. This position is also responsible for the proper operation of the water treatment plant for the production of de-ionized and filtered water. Additional responsibilities for this position also include bulk chemical handling and unloading of chemical trucks, proper operation and support of all environmental equipment, and developing and distributing chemistry reports or other technical guidance. This role will also support all chemistry related projects and provide leadership and technical assistance on chemistry related issues to plant personnel. Partial relocation may be available for this position.

Duties include:

  • Maintain chemical protection of all boilers, turbines, and related steam generating equipment and provide technical support for operations.

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the water treatment plant for production of de-ionized and filtered water.

  • Calibrate and maintain all laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

  • Operate and maintain condensate polishing equipment.

  • Conduct sampling of water, fuel, wastewater, or other items as needed.

  • Monitor and maintain all environmental controls equipment under the responsibility of the Laboratory Department.

  • Perform analytical testing and monitor all plant effluents to assure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.

  • Maintain bulk chemical and laboratory consumables inventory.

  • Oversee bulk chemical handling and transporting.

  • Develop and coordinate activities and resources in support of technical projects such as retrofits, equipment upgrades, and/or process changes.

Job Experience and Education

  • BS degree in Chemistry or other field of science with a MINIMIMUM of 12 semester hours in Chemistry required.

  • Experience and competency in the use, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment; knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques.

  • Experience and competency in the proper operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of analytical, inorganic, environmental and water chemistries

  • Detailed knowledge of chemical treatment methods and operation of water treatment plant is preferred

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems, read and understand schematic diagrams and identify plant water process problems

  • Proficiency in various Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Other requirements

  • This position requires five 8-hour workdays, including weekend and holiday support. Must be available for call-outs, nights, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required.
