Purpose:
Primarily, this position is recognized within Caterpillar as an expert in a specific aspect of the logical or security investigative field including but not limited to network forensics, computer forensics, due diligence, brand protection/counterfeit, heavy equipment theft awareness, insider threat, trade secret protection, product diversion, espionage, sabotage, internal security related matters such as theft, and open source media searches.
Assignments are derived as set forth by the Chief Legal Officer, enterprise security management, Human Resources, the Office of Business Practices (OBP), and/or corporate counsel. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results on a particular logical or physical security investigative methodology, analysis, and/or remediation alternative.
Work is collaborative with legal personnel, and goes through a formal review process. Responsible for the research, design, development, and implementation of complex logical or physical security investigative processes and technologies for the enterprise. Similarly, projects are complex and integrate business issues and problems. Develops, maintains, and audits the analytical and technical aspects of security investigative processes and systems.
Responsibilities Include:
Exercises technical discretion within defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for results.
Serves as a technical expert on internal and external committees and projects to include technical logical or physical security investigative processes. Provides a leadership role to less experienced team members in technical development, training, and knowledge share for investigations.
Maintains expert knowledge of specific requirements imposed by foreign agencies and consults regularly with regional offices and legal counsel. Develops investigative security plans, designs, best practices, and guidelines for existing and new security processes or technologies within the logical or physical security domain.
Conducts assessments to ensure investigative compliance with corporate policies and adherence to industry best practices. Oversees planning and conducts extremely sensitive and complex investigations and briefs senior management on status.
Secondary Responsibilities Include:
Receiving, assessing, and triaging OBP Helpline reports in a timely and efficient manner. Coordination and analysis of incoming reports with vendor for ongoing audit requirements.
Regular cadence of review of vendors to ensure cost effectiveness, efficiency, and technology meet Caterpillar's needs.
Regular engagement with Human Resource personnel globally to triage and close out all Helpline reporting for compliance purposes.
Responsible for the research, design, development, and implementation of OBP Helpline reporting to the Chief Human Resource Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, Board of Directors, and its' respective committees, as required.
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, demonstrated persuasive and influencing capabilities and an ability to lead and motivate others.
Typical internal customers include various contacts globally at all levels of the organization.
The position's primary customers are internal.
The position often confronts complex issues or problems, which require careful analysis and diagnosis.
The position requires a high degree of discretion and maintaining confidentiality of matters.
Problems are often unique and solutions can require original approaches. The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions.
The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results.
Impacts key quality goals including Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc. The position serves as an advisor/consultant to assist groups with quality improvements in the measure(s) stated.
Requirements:
Master's degree or international equivalent in an area of study relevant to this position and more than 7 years' experience with a major law enforcement, intelligence, public service or private sector security organization or Bachelor's degree or international equivalent in an area of study relevant to this position and more than 12 years' experience with a major law enforcement, intelligence, public or private sector security organization.
