The position of Earthmoving Manufacturing Fabrications Project Engineer will serve as a liaison between the Medium Wheel Loader Large Structures product design engineering teams and Caterpillar internal manufacturing partners. This position will facilitate CPPD/ICT team to provide leadership to internal manufacturing partners to ensure early collaboration with manufacturing facilities, design engineering and suppliers where applicable on design for manufacturability, process efficiency and costs as well as adherence to APQP guidelines. This position will also be called upon to work with the PMO team to create project management plans and to lead the CPPD/ICT team to deliver on time. The position will lead conformance to internal APQP activities, drive common worldwide manufacturing processes, reduce deviations, and can lead projects to resolve fabrication quality issues resulting from process or design issues. This position can also be called upon to lead cross Earthmoving fabrication manufacturing related projects.

Specifically in this role you can expect to:

  • Lead Medium Wheel loader fabrication cross functional World Wide CPPD team to develop solutions that meet multiple objectives and balance safety, quality, velocity, and cost

  • Accountable to identify and set current and future, manufacturing target costs that are realistic and valid

  • Provide leadership and is the key communicator for Collaborative Product and Process Development

  • Ensure the development, analysis, and documentation of worldwide common process information for new product development, design and cost improvement, maintenance, make versus buy, and other special projects

  • Provide leadership that ensures trade off discussions early in the design process to balance performance, quality, velocity, and cost with focus on optimizing value

  • Launch and follow through on all APQP activities

  • Provide design for manufacturability consulting and coaching to the various engineering design teams

To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (or related degree)

  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes - welding primarily

  • 7 years in fabrications manufacturing process development, fabrications product design, or fabrication supplier development.

  • Previous experience in Worldwide CPPD activities

Top candidates will also bring:

  • Previous Medium Wheel Loader fabrication experience- manufacturing or product design

  • Previous cost modeling experience

  • Previous process fabrication simulation experience

  • Previous proven team leadership and demonstrated high levels of initiative and accountability

  • Good level of understanding of company policies and procedures related to manufacturing, and engineering.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
