In this role you will have the opportunity to use your engineering knowledge and skills to help ensure that our products continue our tradition of excellence our customer have come to expect.

Position will be located with the MTP product and engineering teams at the Peoria Proving Grounds, the primary development and testing location for Caterpillar Earthmoving machines. This location provides the unique opportunity to easily view and operate machines as well as support on-machine testing activities.

As a Structural Systems Senior Design Engineer, you will:

  • Hold responsibility for contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes of structural systems on the D6, D7 & D8 track-type tractors and pipelayers with a major focus on technical delivery. Those structural systems defined as those machine structures that carry the working loads of the machine.

  • Perform complex analysis work, identify design problems, and resolve problems towards meeting goals for cost, reliability, and performance, while managing multiple priorities.

  • Design welded and machined fabrications which may include steel castings and/or forgings.

  • Participate in and lead Concurrent Product & Process Development (CPPD) meetings, collaborating with manufacturing facilities, suppliers and supply chains across the world.

  • Partner with other engineering teams to support current production and new product programs.

  • Keep up-to-date on changing customer needs as the projects progress, stay current with new technologies, and provide guidance and direction on the project to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or a similar engineering degree

  • 5 or more years of design, analysis and/or test experience

  • 3D solid modeling proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering curriculum

  • 8 or more years of design, analysis and/or test experience.

  • General understanding of structural analysis methodologies and manufacturing processes of structural fabrications.

  • Previous experience in structural systems design and/or Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

  • Previous experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Previous experience in heavy construction, automotive or manufacturing industry
