What you'll do here:

As a Senior Software Engineer at Cengage, you'll be hands-on and writing lots of code! You will also be interacting with other teams across the organization. You will be crafting solutions and building out the next revision of our LMS Integrations application and will join a team that is working on new technologies for providing digital access to Cengage content. This role will involve:

  • Designing and implementing solutions spanning UI and backend technologies.

  • Collaborating with Engineering Management to develop well-formed stories/epics from business initiatives.

  • Mentoring teammates in standard methodologies and proper use of related technologies.

  • Collaborating with external teams and business owners to define and implement technical requirements.

  • A dedication to continuously improving and refining our codebase and processes.

  • Helping to plan, estimate, and provide just-in-time designs for increments of work.

  • Ensuring the best possible user experience for our end users, passing them onto their content in as seamless a way as possible.

  • Taking security seriously in everything you do, thinking about and ensuring that we protect student and instructor data in everything we do, including every aspect of the SDLC.

Skills you will need here:

  • 5+ years of Java experience.

  • Solid understanding of Spring, Maven, and git.

  • Proficiency with SQL in an Oracle database.

  • Experience developing and consuming REST services.

  • React/Typescript experience a big plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

  • Strong teamwork orientation and the ability to collaborate within and across teams.

  • Experience working in an agile (Scrum) development environment.

  • Ability to perform root cause analysis, technology evaluation, and design spikes.

  • Strong testing skills and a keen eye for edge cases.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years software development experience using Java/Spring/Maven and related technologies.

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
