Transmission Lines Engineer

This position will be responsible for providing support to the Southern TMC Transmission Line Maintenance workgroup. The successful candidate's responsibilities will include supporting the TMC Supervisor and Team Leader, Engineering Staff, Foreman, and Line Crews by providing line design support, preparing and closing capital and maintenance work orders, coordinating material needs, overseeing maintenance and inspection contractors, entering and reviewing data, coordinating work activities with other departments, patrolling transmission lines, coordinating repairs on transmission lines and associated equipment, performing environmental inspections, etc. This position is located in Montgomery, AL.

Superior customer service will be expected from the successful candidate. The candidate filling this position is also expected to demonstrate a commitment to safety and will also be expected to participate in service restoration efforts, both on and off system.

Job Requirements:

Education :

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university required

Job Experience :

  • Experience using transmission or distribution line design software is preferred

  • 2-5 years of experience in the maintenance, construction, and/or operation of transmission or distribution line facilities is preferred

  • 1 year of experience in the formal design of transmission lines is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of Transmission Line maintenance practices preferred

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to effectively deal with both external and internal customers

  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple high priority projects with deadlines

  • Availability for standby duty and after-hours emergency response and support

  • Ability to work in team situations as well as independently from a support role and a leadership role

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Knowledge of electrical system operations in both transmission and distribution

  • Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code preferred
