The Opportunity
This opportunity may lead to selection into a two-year development rotational program following graduation. Rotational placings may vary depending on business needs. The Chief Financial Office (CFO) Future Leaders Program is designed to develop entry level talent to be the future generation of leaders for the organization through meaningful projects and team assignments, senior leader exposure, and professional development opportunities within CFO at USAA. The program is a 2-year rotational program where participants will rotate through a series of challenging and unique assignments. Each assignment will be approximately 12 months in length but may vary based on division and business needs. Throughout the rotation, participants can expect to enhance their business and CFO acumen, leadership skills, gain exposure to key CFO areas and disciplines, interact with executive leaders, and receive frequent developmental feedback.

Possible Internship Assignments:
Information Stewardship and Data Governance: Manages CFO Information assets and remedies gaps related to Enterprise Data Governance requirements. creates and implements data monitoring rules using a variety of techniques and tools, supports data management efforts in adherence to USAA internal policies, standards, procedures, and external laws and regulations.
Business Intelligence: Analyzes business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to analysts and decision makers. Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and required or available data elements.
Insight Delivery : Within defined guidelines and frameworks, consults with the business to understand and define opportunities and recommends solutions by analyzing data and providing key insights to inform decisions.
Data Science: Within defined guidelines and framework, translates business problems into applied statistical, machine learning, simulation, and optimization solutions to inform actionable business insights and drive business value through automation, revenue generation, and expense and risk reduction.
The internships will be based either at the USAA Corporate Headquarters in San Antonio, TX, or Charlotte, NC, based on business needs. Interns offered full-time roles may have the opportunity to work out of one of USAA's satellite locations.
What you'll do:
Under direct supervision and following risk and compliance procedures and guidance, you will perform routine work assignments and problem resolution to support other team members tasks, including the following.
Gathers business requirements by partnering with customers to define the business problem and data needs.
Ensures that information management practices: Metadata management, Data Quality, Data Lineage, Data Profiling, etc. are integrated into appropriate business and technology processes in support of the Information Governance policy.
Utilizes basic knowledge of multiple data structures and sources to support the development and implementation of business intelligence solutions, which may include data visualization, business intelligence, data transformation, or data collection.
Develops partnerships with IT execution teams on the development of analytic infrastructures, data engineering, or related business intelligence enablement efforts. Includes collaborating on the design and implementation of technical standards and governance practices.
Supports the delivery of business insights using machine learning, simulation, and optimization.
Acquires knowledge of data analysis techniques, technologies, and methodologies. Works closely with more senior data scientists to perform hands-on model life cycle related tasks.
Partners with senior team members to develop and deploy models within the Model Development Life Cycle (MDLC) and Model Risk Management (MRM) framework.
What you need to have:
To qualify, you must be pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in mathematics, computer science statistics, economics, finance, actuarial sciences, science and engineering, or other similar quantitative discipline. Our 2025 internship will start on May 28, 2025, and last through August 8, 2025.
Graduation date cannot be prior to August 8, 2025
Up to 2 years of experience in Information or Data related practices to include: information governance, information management, information architecture, IT, analysis, and reporting.
Foundational experience in one or more dynamic scripted language (Python, R, etc.) and database query language (such as SQL, HQL, NoSQL, etc.) for performing statistical analyses and/or building and scoring AI/ML models.
Foundational knowledge of and experience with the concepts and technologies associated with classical supervised and unsupervised modeling.
Knowledge and/or awareness of business intelligence and data management platforms (Tableau, Business Objects, Snowflake, Hadoop, Netezza).
