Job Description:

The Earthmoving Supply Management currently has an opening for a Category Buyer III with responsibility for North American Light Fabrication across Medium Tractors, Motor Graders, Medium Wheel Loaders and Paving equipment. This position will serve as the primary contact between Caterpillar and the supply base for global/regional initiatives, including filling the functional seat for commercial discussions/negotiations with suppliers. This individual will be the recognized expert for his or her assigned category and will support development and execution of the global category strategy, as well as drive performance excellence in Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management (QCLDM) through direct leverage with the supply base partnering with Supplier Development personnel and Product/Facility Procurement organizations. This role will also be a Supplier Lead for suppliers with multiple source buyers and act as the liaison accountable for corresponding with the other source buyers. As the commercial Buyer, you will be responsible for communication, development, management, and execution of the global/regional category strategy, managing policies, agreements, and supplier data.

What You'll Do (Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities):

  • Leadership - Provide leadership for strategic sourcing - qualified supply network, business continuity, supplier risk management - capacity & financial, contract management, supplier commercial negotiations, cost/spend management - TCA/TCO assurance, supplier on boarding/off boarding, lead/response time optimization and resource management decisions. Demonstrate leadership in recognizing the potential for cost and inventory reductions, as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment. Mentor and develop other Buyers and Purchasing Analysts. Promote the highest level of professionalism and business ethics.

  • Strategy - The incumbent will lead Strategic Sourcing activities to fully understand the current performance of the supply network, evaluate strategic options, decide a course of action, and begin implementation. The incumbent must also have strong knowledge of the product, NPI, Facility, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Category Strategies.

  • Supplier Development - Collaborate with Supplier Development Engineers and other EMSM Buyers, to ensure continuous improvement in QCLDM with key/critical suppliers. Build and foster mutually beneficial supplier relationships at all organizational levels.

To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Technology, Business, or similar curriculum) and 3+ years of job-related experience in purchasing, engineering, manufacturing or supply chain

OR

  • 8+ years of procurement background with direct supplier experience (in lieu of degree)

Top candidates will also bring:

  • Experience with Lognet, MACH 1, and/or CBS systems

  • Understanding of company policies and procedures related to manufacturing, engineering, and/or procurement

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required in dealing with sensitive issues; influencing others inside and outside the department; and reaching consensus on specific actions

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and project leadership skills

  • Effective communicator, in written and oral form

  • Experience leading and executing category strategies

  • Proactive and effective analysis and documentation of product cost information for the new product development, design and cost improvement, maintenance, make versus buy and other special projects

  • Extremely strong negotiator, able to interpret, analyze and negotiate contractual cost elements

  • Is experienced in leading teams, external suppliers, and customers to effective solutions.

Additional Details:

  • This position would ideally be located in Peoria, Illinois area; however, open to considering other Caterpillar Earthmoving facilities within the U.S. (Aurora, IL; Decatur, IL; Minneapolis, MN; & North Little Rock, AR)

  • Hybrid work schedule: 2 to 3 days in office

  • 10%+ travel is expected

  • Relocation assistance is not available

  • ISE assignment is not available for this position
