The Caterpillar OEM Solutions Business is a growing segment in Resource Industries with a mission is to provide proven Caterpillar components, systems, and machines for OEM applications. Our customers value OEM Solutions products because we provide validated solutions and access to the Caterpillar dealer network giving the OEM products an advantage in the market.

We are seeking an Engineering Manager candidate to lead the OEM Solutions growing software and electrical engineering team. In this key role you will report to the OEM Engineering and Product support manager and have direct leadership responsibility for the direct reports and indirect resources that design, develop and test software and electrical components for OEM products. This leader will work directly with end customers to integrate the Caterpillar components and systems in their applications. One key area of focus will be our Power Pack business integrating our Caterpillar Industrial Engines and Transmissions for Locomotive and Widebody Truck applications. Another exiting area of growth is our partnership with MTES in developing Minestar Edge and Autonomous integration with our WDS (Water Delivery) system our Large Mining Truck (LMT) and Off Highway Truck (OHT) products including field follow development. This candidate will manage controls projects with major OEMs such as Elphinstone and Kress on their WR810, WR820, Kress Coal Hauler and WTS derivative products and other OEM Solutions legacy offerings. Lastly, this candidate has design control for the CAT Water Delivery System (WDS) control system which is an OEM Solutions product line. This is a critical role for OEM Solutions which impacts over 75% of OEM Solutions OPACC and is aligned with nearly all our OIA growth areas for our business. It will require supervision and technical direction to a staff of hourly, salaried, and management personnel including technical specialist(s) engaged in design, development or research activities related to one or more technology, component, product, or process which accomplish product maintenance and new product introduction objectives.

Job Duties

  • Direct Leadership for all OEM Solutions Software and Electrical resources and projects

  • Indirect Leadership for global OEM aligned internal and external Software and Electrical resources and SOW projects

  • Manage Software and Electrical teams for all OEM Solutions applications from NTI to NPI and Product Support SME

  • Scope and budget responsibility for all software and electrical content for OEM NPI including Locomotive and Widebody Truck OEM Powerpacks

  • Manage Cat Water Solutions Water Delivery (WDS) system controls development including Minstar Edge and Autonomy integration

  • Manage OEM features sets for Caterpillar WTS, OHT, and LMT OEM products

  • Identification and scoping of Electrical and Software growth projects in OEM Solutions

  • Software and Electrical design control for OEM Solutions

  • Maintenance Responsibility for all OEM Solutions Legacy Software and Electrical for all applications worldwide

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum

  • 10+ years of experience in Control System Engineering

  • Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills

  • Must have record of effectively translating customer requirements to engineering system requirements & delivering solutions

  • Must have ability to communicate technical information effectively & teach and mentor team members

Top Candidates will also have

  • Master's degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum

  • Matlab/Simulink, CAT Composer, IQAN, Closed loop and adaptive control and autonomous machine experience

  • Transmission L4 and L5 controls and development and integration experience

  • Product link and connectivity experience

  • Caterpillar machine L5 and L6 controls experience

  • Mechanical engineering or hydraulics related controls experience

  • Proven ability to quickly gather technical information from machine groups, process partners, and customers

  • Strong analytical skills and connections within Caterpillar to solve system and integration issues

  • Six Sigma Black Belt

The location for this position is Mossville, IL

Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

This position may require up to 10% travel.
