Overview

The Principal Engineer for Core Banking Foundational Services will serve as subject matter expert and consultant for the transition to the new Cloud Core Banking system at NFCU. The Principal will be responsible for driving forward the implementation of the new Cloud Core banking system. This individual will need to become knowledgeable in our current on-premises mainframe batch driven Core banking system and make recommendations to solve problems around migrating this to a real-time cloud-based Core Banking system. The Principal will be consulted on the strategy, design, engineering, and integration efforts within Cloud Enabled Core services.

The Principal engineer will provide technical expertise on the new Cloud Core Banking system as well as other technologies and ancillary systems that are used to support or integrate with the Core Banking system. This role will use engineering principles and technology to construct necessary systems to interface with the new cloud core banking system as well as champion the proper usage of configuration and extensibility capabilities of the new core banking product. This will require close collaboration with the Technology Product Owner and Technology Product Managers in Cloud Enabled Core services, vendors and other departments in ISD. This person will interact with ISD, business unit leadership, and vendors to support the development of a roadmap that addresses the necessary milestones needed to support the implementation of the new cloud Core Banking system.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in distributed and cloud technologies

  • Ensure appropriate thought and considerations are applied to sizing and performance metrics of the new cloud banking core

  • Instrumental in driving Cloud based models such as PaaS and SaaS based applications preferably on Oracle cloud and/or Azure

  • Provide information specific to cloud migration, support, and testing

  • Will work closely with business stakeholders and IT leadership to ensure that business solutions are efficiently delivered

  • Ability to perform fit gap analysis on current technology options and recommendations to technologies more in line to the modernization for the Core Banking platform and interfaces into the product

  • SME for the new cloud core banking product and the ability to drive decisions around the products configurability and extensibility options to satisfy current and future business demands

  • Drive the development and effective use of Anchor Platform Technologies to deliver efficient business processes, management information, and analysis to maximize functionality

  • Collaborate with IT partners (Enterprise Architectural Team, Solution Architectural Team, Application Development Team, ISD Operations) regarding the upgrade and development of distributed and cloud systems striving to minimize customization and adapting business processes as necessary

  • Support CBS and PEDS leadership with planning and development of a Cloud enabled core banking system modernization roadmap

  • Lead projects by developing and implementing a flexible change management methodology/ framework for the delivery of projects, working closely with IT for integration into the existing IT change management process

  • In partnership with CBS Leadership, manage and build relationships with third-party vendors to achieve cost efficiencies and ensure that service level agreements are established and met

  • Supports CBS leadership to ensure technical, cost, and schedule rigor on all Cloud Enabled Banking core, projects and deliverables

  • Lead the creation of technical requirements for the implementation of business solutions

  • Responsible for mentoring of other management and staff on cloud best practices

  • Provide production support activities through planned releases, break-fix resolution and emergency situations.

  • Monitor and analyze metrics to ensure customer satisfaction

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems preferred or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of combined experience in development of distributed on-prem, migrated on-prem to cloud and green field cloud-based systems

  • Instrumental in driving Cloud based models such as PaaS and SaaS based applications preferably on Oracle cloud and/or Azure

  • Strong technology background covering Core banking systems as well as industry knowledge of best practices in cloud PaaS/SaaS/IaaS offerings

  • Proven experience supporting modernization efforts for high volume financial core systems

  • Life Cycle experience in migrating on-prem assets to cloud

  • Excellent project and program management skills, oral, and written communications

  • Knowledge of change and release management processes

  • Experience working in client-focused service delivery environments

  • Proven ability to develop and manage contracts, budgets, and schedules

  • Able to effectively manage and mentor team members

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in Cloud Core Banking products

  • Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud and/or AWS Solution Architect certification(s)

  • Familiarity with banking and financial industry standards and practices

  • Technical certifications in SAFe/Scaled Agile and/or other technologies a plus
