Job Description

  • GENERAL SUMMARY

  • The Director of Supply Chain Management is responsible for the overall operation of the supply chain activities for the health system. Provides vision, expertise, and leadership to plan, develop, and implement strategic initiatives, cultural transformation, best practices and serves as a resource to facilitate the operational aspects of the supply chain including but not limited to: vendor selection and relationships, negotiations, cost benefit analysis, product safety and standardization. Oversees operations relating to end-to-end purchasing activities, strategic sourcing, value analysis, distribution, contracted services, logistics, fleet management, printing, mail and records retention and storage systems. Development of processes to promote quality of service, budgetary compliance including capital asset management and identification of departmental direction and expectation are key elements of the role. Develops cost management strategies that positively impact the bottom-line, and provide overall value in service to the organization. A high level of independence in performance of the role and/or solution of problems is expected, however, demonstrated cooperation and collaboration is equally essential for successful functioning. Reports to a member of senior management.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Builds strategic alliances with organizational leaders and physicians as it relates to successfully executing materials services operational plans.

  • Develops departmental goals, objectives, operational policies and procedures.

  • Accountable for the development and administration of the department budget.

  • Ensures optimal allocation of staff allocations to meet the supply change needs of the organization.

  • Ensures departmental compliance with organizational, department specific policies / procedures.

  • Develops processes to meet or exceed customer service objectives.

  • Maintains DNV/ISO certification as it relates to Supply Chain.

  • Stays abreast of national and global supply chain activities in order to report and develop mitigation strategies in the event of supply chain disruptions.

  • Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other activities as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • CMRP (Certified Materials & Resource Professional) highly desired.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in Business or Health Care Administration required.

  • Five to eight years' experience in healthcare at progressive levels of responsibility.

  • Knowledge of healthcare Materials Management organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Materials Management Information Systems and the ability to understand, interpret, and analyze system requirements.

  • Demonstrates the ability to understand, interpret, and analyze complex financial arrangements.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare financing concepts in the area of supply procurement and a working knowledge of financial reimbursement terms.

  • Demonstrates professionalism and superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to interact and work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams from all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple projects with varying deadlines and levels of importance.

  • Proficient in Quality Improvement Techniques and lean methodologies.

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office computer skills, as well as operational experience with an MMIS component of an organization-wide integrated Management Information System.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills necessary in order to interact effectively with staff and vendors.

  • Requires analytical skills necessary to make complex comparisons, recommendations and decisions to meet the needs of the health system.

  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and be able to meet the insurance requirements of the hospital.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
