Summary You will serve as a Transportation Assistant in the Regional Transportation Office of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK. Responsibilities You will classify cargo for modes of transportation best suited to the type of cargo. You will calculate shipping costs. You will process shipments and generate bills of laden. You will make arrangements for the movement of various types of material. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector identifying the modes of transportation, necessary special equipment, and services required for shipments, securing carriers, and advising customers on transportation issues. Examples of specialized experience may include: 1) Analyzing material dimensions and weight to determine specific handling, packing, loading, or type of carrier equipment required, including over-dimensional loads; 2) Computing shipment costs and verifying that charges are valid; 3) Investigating and determining carriers' responsibilities for discrepancies; 4) Preparing and maintaining accountability for additional documents, as required, i.e. Bills of Laden, customs forms, voucher/pay adjustment, authorization, etc.; 5) Using transportation software as required to process, coordinate, and track shipments, and other required job duties.
