What We're Looking For
HNTB is seeking an experienced, organized, motivated Transportation Planner for our Los Angeles office to support the Transportation Planning Group and support the firm's renowned planning, design, and engineering services. The Transportation Planning Group is centered on applying comprehensive planning and design solutions to respond to shifts in the transportation industry, foster community development and create new innovations to meet the needs of our clients.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an individual with a minimum of 8 years of experience and well-versed in a range of urban planning services, including but not limited to transit planning, network redesign, and technological integration (e.g., fleet electrification), Complete Streets, emerging mobility policy, planning and design (e.g., MaaS, MoD, shared micromobility services, microtransit, etc.), area-wide and corridor planning, parking and curbside management, and equitable policies, performance planning and engagement practices.
The ideal candidate shall have experience in managing complex projects and working alongside multiple team members, including primes, subconsultants, and third-party vendors. They must be well-versed in research and technical aspects of transportation planning. They may lead and/or support major tasks on large-scale project and manage entire projects and teams on small-scale planning projects. They must understand concept development through project implementation and the methods required to achieve success.

What You'll Do:
Leads aspects of internal and external coordination with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.
Leads client meetings, participates in client meetings and interactions.
Conducts or directs research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, and formulates recommendations.
Develops conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects
Leads tasks with minimal direction related to the preparation and production of technical plans, studies, written reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
Leads public and stakeholder engagement and presents information to the community.
Leads coordination with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
Mentors and provides direction on the work of less experienced staff.
Coordinates the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP's for projects.
Writes major sections of and leads production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects. Also coordinates and synthesizes the contributions of others.
Provides work direction and leads Planners and support staff on assigned projects.
Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.
Develops planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios, and perform project analysis.
Leads planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 8 years related professional experience, or
Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 7 yrs of relevant experience
What You'll Bring:
Draws conclusions and makes recommendations to the client to move the project forward and determine direction. Provides direction to less experienced staff.
Oversees implementation of the research plan by less experienced staff. Applies evaluation methodologies to interpret conclusions and makes recommendations.
Responds to client questions and leads the comment resolution process. Leads the preparation of the report.
Manages client meetings and oversees preparation of meeting materials with support.
What We Prefer:
Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.
Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Envision, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP)

The approximate pay range for Los Angeles Metro Area and Orange County, CA is $95,934.40 - $150,051.25. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
