Description

The Team@Excellence has an opening for an Engineer - Process in the Process and Tools Group.

The Process and Tools group (P&T) leads Caterpillar's Corporate Product Development Processes and owns the software tools that product developers use to build world-class products. We also manage a large quantity of data and we organize that data to find insights that help our internal partners succeed.

Our processes and tools are the foundation of best practices used around the enterprise to ensure defect-free products for our global customers. We work with product developers around the corporation to deploy best practices through training, sharing, tool improvements and data visualizations.

We are looking for candidates eager to learn. This role is suitable for candidates with prior experience with product development processes but who are also interested in learning about data science and digital product development. The P&T group leverages a large quantity of data to build visualizations and uses analytics to provide business insights to users across the enterprise. This role will be responsible for creating, improving & implementing processes to meet customer requirements and maximize product quality.

Job Duties

- Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes (automation, software and process improvements, dashboards, data science and visualizations, etc.) to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement across the enterprise.

- Planning and improving engineering procedures to make our products more reliable and cost-effective.

- Collaborating with all functional areas, (engineering, marketing, procurement, manufacturing) to provide solutions that meets the requirements of both internal and external customers.

Skill Descriptors

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Level Working Knowledge:

- Provides effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges via sound technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.

- Effectively performs the technical job aspects, continuously building knowledge and keeping up-to-date on technical and procedural job components.

- Applies technical operating and project standards based on achieving excellence in delivered products, technologies and services.

- Applies current procedures and technologies to help resolve technical issues in one's general area of technical competence.

- Helps others solve technical or procedural problems or issues.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems

Level Working Knowledge:

- Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.

- Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.

- Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities to discover application problems.

- Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.

- Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.

Basic Qualifications

Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

3-5 years of job-related experience

Top Candidates will also have

Experience collaborating with suppliers, including the use of corporate processes like PPAP, PCN, NCM, Supplier CARs. This experience could come roles in CPPD, supplier quality, supplier development engineering or other similar positions.

The location for this position is Mossville, IL.
