Mechanical Design / Integration Engineer

This position will have primary responsibility for various aspects of G3500 EP Natural Gas large engine NPI Projects (New Product introduction).
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Create and maintain BOM spreadsheet for PA structure, Release PAs. Collaboration with L3 & L4 teams as appropriate to achieve proper product structure.
Coordinate the completion of VDRAs on the BOM to validate the PAs are set-up properly and compatibility is correct with all the attachments and standard configuration.
Coordinate the completion of VDRAs for NPI proto and pilot builds to verify the build consist is accurate and there are not extra or missing parts, compatibility issues, etc.
Responsible for prove design parts management, ordering, shipping, etc. to support proto builds, lab or field testing.
Provide support for following prototype engines/packages down assembly line and ensure that issues get initiated in myNPI to be worked.
Participate in DFMEA's & VFMEA's at the L3, L4 and L5 level.
Participate in functional spec & QFD development for an NPI program.
Create and/or populate technical spec documents from functional spec as required to cascade to L3 & L4 teams.
Owner of the "supermodel" for a given program. Need to make sure the L3 and L4 teams have an up to date and accurate model to work with at all times. For and engine only programs, this should be led by the L4 team but will require assistance from the L5 Integration Engineer. For package programs the L5 Integration Engineer owns this.
Gather the required TMI data from the appropriate engineering groups and working with the responsible person in the performance group in getting 100% of it entered into TMI by GW6. Responsible for coordinating and obtaining L5 data such as sound testing and CG.
Utilize project planning services to keep NPI program plans accurate.
Collaborate with other groups (Engineering, Marketing, Purchasing, etc.) as necessary. The L5 integration engineer should communicate as appropriate with the other L3 and L4 teams to make sure that all requirements are understood and that the package is being designed such that it meets the requirements as defined in the functional spec.
Understand customer interface points well & communicate to appropriate L3/L4 teams to ensure proper integration of product.
Coordinate virtual & on engine safety and serviceability audits to be completed and complete the appropriate follow-up activities that result.
For package programs responsible for coordinating & executing validation activities and conducting reviews as necessary with the L3/L4 teams to communicate results. For engine only programs responsible for assisting the L4 lead in executing the validation plan. Need to understand how the engine & package will be applied/operated in the field to ensure a robust validation plan is in place
Track cost status of engine, package and attachments through collaboration with the L3 and L4 teams throughout NPI program to understand cost drivers and where opportunities are to reduce it.
Work to resolve any PPRD issues where ownership is assigned. Update myNPI system to show PPRD status on a regular basis and ensure activities are in program project plan and maintained.
Collaborate with the Customer Service and A&I group to update O&M manuals, A&I guides, parts books, O&O costs, service manuals, etc.
Provide support to the Customer Service group in completing customer installation audits.
Travel to supplier or customer sites pending project need (~10% travel)
Top Candidates will also have:
A strong personal initiative
4 year degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 2 years of relevant experience OR 2 year degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 4 years of relevant experience
2 years of engineering experience related to Engines
A basic understanding of large gas and/or diesel engine operation
Strong data analysis skills
Strong communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work well independently and as a collaborative member of a cross functional team
Large gas and/or diesel troubleshooting skills
Understanding of Caterpillar engine product configuration
Caterpillar 6 Sigma training
Familiarity with CSA, EU and API standards
Knowledge of SAP
Proficiency working with computers and computer systems. Software programs used frequently include, but not limited to: Creo, VisView Mockup, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Team Center
