One of the major VMware goals is to deliver a ubiquitous software infrastructure in any cloud. Our customers must be able to modernize their applications in their cloud of choice and use the cloud native services for their applications.
It is not very often that you will directly get to work on company's vision, esp in large companies like VMware. The atlas platform team is the VMware cloud platform team that is working on taking the VMCloud to a multi-cloud solution.
This Atlas platform manager role is responsible for the data layer of Atlas Platform. You will be managing a team of highly specialized engineers who are experts in solutions that are highly available at scale. You will be working closely with this team designing and solving complicated data layer problems around caching, aggregation of data across geographically distributed multi-cloud systems
What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months, you will work toward completing?
As a manager of the Data fabric team you will:
Have regular 1:1 with the direct reports mentoring and coaching them and help them towards their career goals
Work with the product manager and the leads on backlog grooming, sprint planning
Work with Product manager and build the road map for the team
Participate and contribute to the design and architecture meetings for various capabilities and features offered by the data fabric team
Work with vendors for data fabric integrated solutions and support.
Work with service development teams on their data layer needs.
Work with compliance team that solutions offered by this team meet the SOC2, ISO, PCI, and Fedramp High standards
Gauge the on-call load and continuously look for ways to improve the operational burden on the team

Participate in design discussions and reviews
Work with product managers on the road map and prioritization
Engage with vendors for data layer caching solutions or with DB vendors on any corner case issues
What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Roman Brouk Director of Engineering. Roman reports to the VP of Engineering for the Cloud Infrastructure Business Group (CIBG) Solutions organization. His charter expands across the entire Atlas platform and covers many key VMC services that are multi-cloud, multi provider focused. The distributed team of over 100 people works very closely across multiple geo locations and covers critical VMC use cases. With over 20 years of management experience of which 9 years are in VMware, Roman provides autonomy to his management team, while working closely with them to achieve business objectives. Roman is a huge proponent of teamwork, collaboration, and transparency.
