DESCRIPTION :
As a member of the CBM & Machinery Diagnostics team, this position is responsible for testing, analysis, and support for all generating facilities (Fossil, Hydro, Nuclear, Gas, Renewables, and Distributed) within the Southern Company fleet. The position will have a wide variety of individual and teamwork assignments in testing, analyzing, and evaluating solutions. This position will also provide diagnostics and analytics support to the Operations Monitoring & Diagnostic (OM&D) Center for detecting and troubleshooting equipment issues.
WORK LOCATION:
This position will be based in Birmingham, AL; however, flexible scheduling is offered with some virtual opportunities. Successful candidates must be willing to travel to office and/or field locations on a frequent and as-needed basis. This position will require a mix of in-person work at the Energy Center Office in Birmingham as well as travel and work at all Southern Company Generation facilities.
Summary of Position Duties:
Provide expert diagnosis and support in Vibration Diagnostics, Equipment Balancing and Alignment, and related areas.
Support Plant CBM (Condition Based Maintenance) Specialists, System Owners, OM&D Analysts, and others to resolve equipment and process issues.
Provide on-site and remote monitoring, analysis, and troubleshooting for plant equipment, components, and structures
Provide oral and written communication of findings and recommendations to all levels of the organization.
Actively participate in internal and industry groups to develop, advance, and implement techniques to ensure that Southern Company's CBM and Diagnostic processes are the best of the best, and that they support the company's goals.
Provide both formal and informal training and knowledge transfer to improve the overall effectiveness of vibration diagnostic efforts across the fleet.
Establish ongoing relationships and effectively communicate with all levels of plant and corporate employees and management, vendors, peer groups, and subject matter experts.
Education & Work Experience:
Bachelor degree in Engineering is required.
Previous experience and expertise in CBM and Machinery Diagnostics is preferred.
Experience in Engineering, Maintenance, or Operations in a power plant, manufacturing, or other industrial facility is preferred.
Experience with data acquisition and analysis systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong teamwork skills and ability to work effectively with wide variety of people at different levels of the organization.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Quick learner, self-starter, strong initiative, highly motivated.
High degree of analytical skills and computer skills are required.
Experience with CBM and Diagnostics software is preferred.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently (approximately 50%) and work in industrial power plant and construction environments.
